I just bought a maasdam puller with 150 feet of rope. What would be a good container for the rope? Would a 5 gallon bucket work? I am just a homeowner that needs a bit of help once in awhile. What do the non-pros use?

I used an old small suitcase that had a busted handle. I make sure the rope never gets put away wet.

a 3 gallon bucket would be perfect, keep it coiled and compact, put on the lid clean and dry

A rope bag works well but I suppose a bucket should too. Just stuff the rope in, don't try to wind it in carefully or anything. If you do this you will never have a rats nest of rope when you go to remove it. At least I never have had in the limited rope use I have had.

U.S. Coast Guard.... "Nothing"! just don't let it get too much sun or get wet and moldy. If the line is polypropelyne, it will dry rot in the heat in to much sun, Nylon is best. again, keep it out of the sun. My suggestion is a burlap bag so it can get air or a box with holes. Put some moth balls in so the mice will stay away. ;)

I use the middle compartment on the service body of my truck. Keep it out of the elements when not in use and it will last a while.

Old backpack works well for rappelling line, and it will be easy to carry to the work site.

I bought this from Amazon. It has a storage pocket for my throwing line and weight as well.

I've tried many ways of storing my ropes, coiling, reels ect. Bags work the best for me. One thing to watch out for though is that they don't pass moisture. If your rope is damp it can stay damp leading to mold. I tend to pull it out of the bag and let it air out if it will be sitting for a while .

I just got this today from Tree Stuff. It's one stiff rope! I haven't tried to put it in the rope bag yet should be....interesting to say the least.
    SAMSON TREE-MASTER 1/2" RIGGING ROPE

    I also have this:
1/2" X 150' Double Braided Polyester Arborist Rigging Rope, Orange and Black.

I bought this first before I bought the puller. After buying the puller, I wasn't sure it would function properly so I bought the Sampson, as recomended. I may sell the orange stuff cause I'm too dang old to start climbing!

Got the maasdam with 200’ of rope and the sling and I ended up getting the silver bull rigging bag and it all fits!
The maasdam handle sticks out but it’s not a big deal F5DC4CA1-7324-4DE6-92E0-0AA0427F8B08.jpeg

You will really like this set up. I love mine. 200' is a nice length of rope. I sprung for a block ( TreeStuff - CMI 3/4" Zinc-Plated Arborist Rigging Block) and sling. This lets you re-direct your pull you aren't directly in line with the direction you are pulling. P.S. I love spending other people's money.

At the rate the Ohio River is comimg up I'm afraid I'm gona' have to use my new rope to tie myself and my wife to something large and heavy to keep us from floating away. I've already lost a half cord or better of mixed red and white oak.:hair:

Yet another timely thread on this site.

This kit just showed up from treestuff. The Maasdam rope puller. I opted for the 150ft rope. That's a-plenty for my needs.

I also ordered some hearing protection for warm weather use, I was supposed to get a free cap. They must have benn out of them, because I got a pair of safety sunglasses instead. I have plenty of caps, so I'm good with the glasses.
