Wonderful pictures. What a fantastic setup. They are really serious about sugaring. I like to use maple syrup or honey when sugar is called for. Both the syrup and honey have many good things in them for you where as sugar is just empty calories.
I hope your brother takes good care of that knee. Knees get infected so easily. Any signs of infection, he'll need antibiotics stat.

At least you have one. I waited until I became to old and broken up to be able to use one. All my kids have one. They are always bragging about what a good time they have.

I’ve been there with the knee! I waited too long and spent 2 nights in the hospital. My nephew works on his family’s farm, so I don’t know how he finds the time. They are serious about getting into the business.

Did our first cook last night - around 40 gallons. Sure was a nice night for it!

Shawn I just found the other post with the pics. Looks nice. Is that a brand name or homemade? How much wood did that go thru for the 4-5 pints you got?

It’s a LaPierre/Waterloo small; I’m not sure if they make that particular model anymore but it’s very similar to the Leader “Half Pint”. I went thru probably 2 dozen splits of black locust but I probably wasn’t running it as efficiently as I could. I just dumped all the sap in the pan at once, you’re supposed to run it with about 1-2” in the main pan and control it all with the valves.
