Maiden voyage to work today. 15 minutes of warm up (it was 12 degrees when I left) then half hour drive 3/4 of it cruising 60 and then stop and go through the city. All I can say is wow! Heck of a difference in sound and power and just wish I’d done it sooner!!!!
if you would of done it sooner they may of come right out and think of all the fun you would of missed out on
Aftermarket glow plugs will do that. They swell and the tip breaks off when you back them out. From what I've heard, the OEM ones dont have this problem.
Great job on the engine. Looks like a ton of work, but you got it done. I will someday have a garage of my own. I am currently driving a '96 Eldorado, and I will surely need the room to work in the winter. I try to make sure I correct everything I can in the warmer months, if it breaks at this time of year, it'll have to wait till temps hit ~60°F before I think about ripping it apart. I like the mechanic that does my inspections and when necessary, does a lot of work for me, but I don't necessarily like him all THAT much. Chaz
Funny this came up..... I was in the local parts store getting stuff for the truck the other day and a local mechanic came in. He overheard my order and said “working on a 5.4 huh?” We got talking and he told me he was getting stuff for a ford 6.7 diesel he was doing a full rebuild on because of factory glow plug tips falling off and trashing the engine.

I'm around 80 mi Southwest of Buffalo. Right in the Southwestern region on the Pa. border. Little place called Hinsdale, just East of a slightly larger place called Olean. Practically neighbors. Chaz
Just the lift pump. Got about 220,000 miles on the injection pump . Hadn't heard of the 53 block problem . Just read up on it. It seems to suggest that the crack occurs around 150,000 miles or while towing heavy in the mountains . Maybe I'll take a look at it some day and see if it's the 53 block. I'm just glad mine doesn't have the killer dowel pin

Nope. IH. I don't remember what brand they were...I've had Motorcraft that swelled up, but was still able to get 'em out
You sure are talented! My brother has a 2004 F250 he bought new. I know he’s had the manifold problem, but I Don’t know about any problems with the spark plugs. A year or 2 ago he had to tear quite a bit apart to change (if I remember right) a tube or hose for the heat. He said it was a ton of work for something simple. Seeing your engine apart reminded me of it.
