I'm not burning one but I have customers that have Whitfields from the early 90's. Just a couple weeks ago I got a free Quad 1100I that I cleaned up and fixed. Sold it for $700. New pellet stoves are expensive and as long as you have a quality unit and parts are available, no reason to ditch your old one if you aren't made of money.

My old Eclipse is in the shop in the event I need heat out there. It gets run once or twice a year.

Why? It's paid for. It's cheaper (and less fumes) than kerosene when I do need heat. And I don't want to see that stove end up in someone's house as I don't trust it. I treat it like a candle - never burn it unattended.

My old quad is there if I need it. Its paid for and doesn't take up much space. If we ever move? I'd make a place for it. Old stoves are like old cars. If they aint rusted out there worth keeping.

    Hello

I got rid of my 4 y/o Avalon Astoria to pick up my 10 y/o and 12 y/o Harmys!

However I did fix em up like new! From Golden Fire Brown with Gold Trim to Satin Black and Nickel Trim!

Also my year 2k Quad Contour in the shed with the pie warming compartment just got a brand new auger motor and control box to eliminate CSS - Cold Start Syndrome!

All built like tanks with brand new updated electronic brains! Nothing could be better!

My St Croix is pretty new… a 2000 model. No reason to buy a new one.

I just can't find anything that throws heat like my Whit I paid $175.00 for it. The Austroflamm I got for free but it needed a new piece of glass, board repair and a new door. For a total of $600.00 I'm thrilled.

Have a Harman Invincible insert that just keeps running and running. Bought it about 6 years ago and all I've had to do is keep it clean. It's a 1994 vintage model and I spent $450 for it. The owner thought it was ready for some new parts and sold it to me. All it needed was a good cleaning and it was good to go. The squirrel cage on the dist blower, which is located under the unit was so caked up with hair that you could not see it. The rest of the fellows house looked like it had never been cleaned. Probably never has.

I burn a bag a day in this stove as I also have a Quad Mt. Vernon, non AE, which likes to eat pellets. I have tried to put it on a diet but it doesn't work as we get cold. Pellets can be expensive when blasting through 3 to 4 bags a day.

I hear you on the pellet usage...this winter has been so cold, running on level four and sometimes 5, pellets were being consumed at an alarming rate. Now that I am running on level two, it seems like the hopper never needs filled!

Welcome to the forum by the way!
