Horkn so what is the answer or did you find the rum again?

 

I used to work with a guy that enjoyed his rum...he kept trying to pass this test to get a certain license (which he finally did on the third try) but he always said he was rum dumb

 

Lol.

It was sugar maple. This tree was hit by lightning nearly 35 years ago. I recall the lightning strike vividly. My first Sony Walkman got zapped by that lightning bolt as it was plugged into the wall. The next morning, that tree was still on fire. I put the fire out. That tree was crooked and crazy looking, but it was finally taken out by a large hollow shagbark hickory that fell on it.

 

Good one. It was that marbled center that made it so hard to button down.

 

I was going to guess maple because of the thin bark and light color, but that dark center wasnt looking right...

 

I guess it's a "flame" maple. Lol

 

So who is going to list the next wood to identify??
