Been working in data processing which goes by the initials IT these days. Started when I was a junior in high school, part-time, in 1974, for the now defunct Zayre corp. Held various positions at corporate America. Climbed the mgmt ladder until i had to lay off 60 of 220 people working for me in the fall of 1992. I was then laid off in the spring of 1993. Received severance sufficient to take a year off to re-train from IBM mainframe to PC's and networks. Worked for a small systems integrator for 4yrs and was laid off again. I then used my people network and got a job at Staples Corporate hdqtrs, in Windows support, and eventually into network security/firewalls and stuff. After several years, I was handed staples global support for DHCP/Dns infrastructure. Rode that horse until 10/2015, when I was told my position was being eliminated. 17 yrs there and I was laid off again. 3rd time's the charm they say. I took on a couple of contracting gigs. And now, I say I'm "between jobs", until such time I sign something that says i'm retired.

Everyone's situation is different. I am fortunate to have been able to work hard, live a frugal life, end up with no debt and have a few $'s in the bank. As the result of having a desk job for 45yrs, I don't have any aches/pains of someone that was a laborer for the same time. As such, I am able to do the hard work of dealing with firewood, heavy lifting, and all that goes with it. I thank the good Lord for my current situation in life.

Ha! What a coincidence! Did I mention that I am also retired? Wow, what are the chances! Suppose we should have yet another retirement bash some cold evening right here on the forums of FHC?

    Last 20 years in HVAC.

"I don't know who you are. I don't know what you want. If you are looking for ransom I can tell you I don't have money, but what I do have are a very particular set of skills. Skills I have acquired over a very long career." Honestly, you absolutely don't want to have me (as a doc) in your life. I diagnose blood cancers, i.e. leukemia and lymphoma.

I would love to have you as my Physician.
My quack-o-practor told me stop cutting wood. Insulate my house and join the gym. Right! Pay a gym fee, drive to the gym and pay some young buck to set up a workout for me. I don't think so.
My Physician and Orthopedic surgeon do some what understand wood hoarding.
My dentist and a couple of his assistances are into wood cutting. Unfortunately I don't need my teeth for wood hoarding.

County Sheriff, its election year, but candidate filing deadline was last Friday. First time in decades, if ever, an incumbent Sheriff was unopposed. We have been doing some great things. Life just got easy. Free time and no fundraising.

Took about thirty years to get there. Spent last twenty as an investigator primarily doing child abuse. Started getting cases involving kids of the kids I had worked for years earlier. Had some cases that made international news. Timing was right to move into the big office. No one wants to spend any time in my memory bank, trust me.

We have term limits, so the exit plan is set. In five years, will ride off into the sunset, and don't plan to be the torment of any other place by refusing to retire. Neat to hing is, 2018 is the agency's 200th year. Being a history buff, I am honored to be set in our history this way.

Have a sixty acre cattle ranch we live on in this county- no time for cattle, and have around 80% of the fence to replace. Third generation 235 acre tree farm that my forester grandfather built- the house and lake in my photo was built by him.
We don't harvest often. My forester says the place is perfect- no need to harvest unless there is a financial need. Show what good management does over fifty years.
