That link with the wood heater with the large stone mass is the most ideal heater. Heat, cook, just plan ahead because if it gets cold, it will be a while getting the temp back up. I have only seen one. It was in a home that had several other heat saving features. The owner said they burned very little wood as compared to what the did in a conventional home and wood stove.
I don't understand "ugly". To me, an ugly stove would be one in disguise. I like functional features. I just spent 4 grand on a stove that looks like a big black box on a smaller box. Now I could have bought that stove with nickel trim and a face plate of soap stone. That would add another $300 to my black box. I have a friend who just purchased a harman and opted for one that has a ceramic finish. That stove can't heat like this one, but to her, it had the looks she wanted for her sun room. My stove in in the family room so it doesn't matter what it looks like. This stoves looks aren't much, but it's functions and performance are beautiful. image.jpg

Would burn even cleaner with a top-down start, but you'd need a very long, skinny arm to light it! ;)
Fire is pretty too, but I don't see a window....

Yeah. The great thing about outside stoves is that you can create whatever you want. Anything is possible.

I have been trying to figure out the innards of the little box. I guess it is the basic mini L. Ah, like I said this thread is meant to be half serious. It is in the teens again and I can't burn anything outside so I play around with ideas and see what everyone is creating.

    I am in Western PA.

Yes, outside. The backyard burners are where my interest lies. There are a multitude of recreational cooking set ups and stoves that can be created. Everything from a basic grilling designs up to massive masonry black and white ovens will work. That couch/stove is for outdoor use in the UK.

My background is building little temporary stoves and ovens to study how fire and mass works.

WOW, that comment just got me thinking.... We could design a STEELERS Black and Gold Woodstock IS stove!! Put the logo on the side leg thingy's, and paint the whole stove Black and Gold! The andirons could be shaped as Lombardi trophies, of course we could not have all SIX (6) of them, we Steeler fans have that nobody else has! :D

    Youza!!

Machria, you really should email that suggestion to Woodstock. That could create a whole new line because believe it or not, there are many folks who are not Steeler fans!

I hope Lorin is reading this thread too:thumbs:

At a minimum it would be fun to see a digital mock up. But I doubt the NFL's trademark lawyers would be willing to give a pass on their marketing fees.

Brian, the main point is not the trademarks but simply the idea. When new ideas are thrown out, rather than finding out why they won't work, let them spur the imaginations of others to inspire new thoughts and things. ;)

You guys are on to something. I could see NFL team stoves with the rabid fans here in the NE. Like Machria said, the logo on the side medallion of the stove similar to yours, Brian.

Some might say my stove already has an NFL theme (though the colors are off):

The NFL is pretty tight with their trademarks.

Restaurants even have to phrase their Super Bowl advertising carefully and in many cases need to avoid the term Super Bowl. But, they could get a licensing agreement. Not sure what that would cost.

Yep, "big game" is the go to safe term for advertising the Super Bowl. Lots of restaurants figure that out the hard way.

HUH? There are people who are NOT Steeler fans???????? I disagree 100%, that is just stupid talk!! That is really not possible, especially since all last week was STEELERS Dynasty week on the NFL channel, nothing but replays of their SIX (yes, 6!) unprecedented Superbowl wins!!

Correct, we are all aware of the many STEELER fans in the NE area since the only other team up there CHEATS! :D

Regarding the NFL, they would simple sign a license agreement with them, basically they pay a small fee for using the logo, and have to have the logo's checked for quality to ensure they are accurate and do not contain anything objectionable...

The NHL is a little cheaper to do, but the NFL requires a $100k a year licensing fee per year plus royalties, plus a guarantee of a minimum amount of product sold per year to remain licensed. I believe the NHL is $40k, but I don't remember exactly. Not sure if the NHL has the same requirements as the NFL for minimum product sold.
