I live in a pretty rural area, lots of land... Not a ton of people. My neighbor had a property logged a few years ago, and had some cull logs piled up (Ash) that he told me to grab whenever I wanted them (same neighbor that I logged the Rover tract near us with last year).
I didn't have much going on tonight, so pulled the truck out and skidded some logs across the field into my place. I think we're going to get a that pretty soon, and didn't want to wait. I'll grab more over there when I can, but it was easy pickings tonight. The pile is probably a cord and a half or so. By the time I finished tonight I had half a cord. This stuff will be easy processing, nothing too big (bigger stuff still in the pile though).
It got dark before I grabbed more pics, but you get the idea. I don't typically take pics of firewood stuff, but figured I better so you guys wouldn't think I hung up the saws for propane lol.

Looks like some nice firewood! Ash makes processing a breeze, burns pretty good too.

With the whole EAB fiasco... It's 90% of what I've burned in the last 7-8 years. No complaints either. I'm getting ready to log the Ash out of my parents property later this spring, maybe sell some of the big stuff if it's clean and rent a processor for the rest of it. I like the thought of being 20-30 cords ahead :D

That's all I've been burning the past 5 years with no end in sight. I have a masive Ash to take down this spring, I figured this single tree has at least 3 cord of wood in it.

Is it bad that I look forward to EAB in Dakota?

It's coming sooner than later (I think every county in Iowa has it). I guess it's inevitable, might as well get it over with and plant some new trees!

You don't want the little SOB's. So many areas just look brown a dead in the summer, and the expense in dealing with the hazard trees is high. And that's not to mention we're losing an entire species of tree, at least for now.

Not only that but it does get a bit tiresome driving down roads and seeing dead trees laying and leaning all over the woods. It really sticks out in the winter months. Looks terrible. I keep thinking all the time about all the potential heat and energy just going to waste.

Took the 550xp out for 15 minutes or so. Made a nice heaping load for the ATV trailer.
Now I know it might be a cardinal fhc sin.... But sometimes late in the year I'll cut standing or laying dead and mix it in straight from the trailer. I'm selective in which wood I do this with... But adds to my volume, and saves whatever I have still stacked and split for future use. In my mind, it saves some moving, stacking, and reloading later this year.

Good points guys. I didn't think of it in that big of a scale. I was just thinking of some dead standing here and there. I also can't stand seeing downed and dead trees rotting away.

If you have a tract of land with lots of Ash..... Log it. All of it.
Ash is good for a lot of things, but once it starts showing stain on the butt you aren't going to get squat for it.
