My honeys full size Chevy truck developed a sudden banging on Monday coming from under the truck any time she hit the smallest bump. Got it in the shop today and they provide loaner vehicle.

This is what she got .................... She couldnt even get out of the parking space at work with 4-5 inches of sn*w :picard:

As she was white knuckling it home and the only one on Rte 1 in Kittery around 5PM, she went past a news crew doing a segment. Wonder if they mentioned the roller skate that went by. She made it home OK so now I can   about it

I know right? How does anyone drive these as their every day vehicle.

It was all they had other than a manual tranny. She hasnt driven a stick since high school and didnt want to it in the sn*w today. I think she would have been better off with the stick.

Yes stick is way better in the snow , grab a gear when you need a gear , not when auto thinks you need one

I have always driven manual until only a few years ago. Luckily my truck does a good job with an auto but I still prefer a stick in the snow.

Tell your Honey that driving a stick is like riding a bike and that other thing :whistle: You never forget how :smoke::smoke:

Snowing like heck here. It is deep, but not sure how deep. I don't go out until it is all cleaned up.
Meanwhile, the ice jam on the river is frozen solid in place. this river is tide water and is a really wide river. When it floods, It really floods like crazy. Here is a picture of the river, about a mile from me. I am not that far from the river, but the road run along side the river and a mile down the hill, this is the view.

Those chunks of ice look small, but they poke up and are the size of an auto.

Everywhere we shoveled in now a sheet of chit................. Did the sand/salt deal before my travel to work. Side roads were crusty and the highway was shinny. Slow and steady for an uneventful ride in!! :D

Yes - the only thing I don't like about my Explorer is it isn't stick so I can't "feel" the road the way I would like to (I drove stick shift exclusively for 25 years prior to getting the Explorer). I definitely want to shift when I need it, not when the tranny decides it wants to. I do a lot of downhill navigating using the gears (instead of D), but it isn't the same and I'm not sure I'm not doing damage to the transmission since it isn't designed for that type of driving.

I'm sure the neighbors were impressed as I was snow blowing the berm from the road plow at 3:45 this morning. While I was at it I also snow blowed the 1.5" of snow plus 1.5-2" of sleet from the driveways. So got about 40 minutes of exercise before heading to work this morning (was in only 1/2 hour late).

Roads were pretty good on my way in. I was shocked that after all the sleet and freezing rain I was going the speed limit and faster all the way to work.

only an inch of snow/ice/sleet on the driveway. I left it last night as it was raining. it'll warm up next couple of days. the office is not any better, and it was plowed and salted.

strong sunshine today will improve things me thinks. :)

    Told her that but...........

 Completely agree with feeling the road-manual trannys are a thing of the past though. Automation is hitting everywhere and in places that it does not belong

Most young people have no idea how to drive one. I read an article written by a reporter for an auto racing magazine who went to Richard Petty's Racing Experience and they had to teach him how to drive a stick before he could get in the racecar. Sad.
