So I finally got one, John Deere 440 I tractor, I found it on Facebook, talked to the guy, found out he's a guy at my work, and checked it out Thursday after work. Picked it up Sunday! Sunday morning we get there and found a hydrolic hose sprung a leak, fresh when I started it, nothing there before hand:picard:so we got it loaded up, figured it would be less than a hundred dollar fix. Got it home, went to fleet farm, got a new hose, $12 SCORE!!!! I got it installed, went to plow the yard, went fantastic! Until I ran out of power and choked it off (or so I hoped that was the reason), went to start it, nothing..... Just a faint click inside the starter, tried again, a little click again, followed by a little smoke. Tried tapping with a wrench, no improvement. I'm thinking, what in Sam Hill did I get myself into!!! Took it off, brought it with me to work today, dropped it off at lunch break and got a call a couple hours later, it's ready! Went and picked it up, put it back in, turned the gas back on, hit the button, turned it over a few times and nothing. Tried again, turned over but nothing, I'm thinking what could possibly be the problem now! Tried a couple more times and it popped off, now we're in business. Tapped it one more time and it was running. Plowed the rest of he yard out with no problems! The loader has a few farmer patch jobs I want to fix when I have time (like that's going to happen) and some hoses are leaking slowly, no big deal. And the power steering pump is leaking. But at least these older tractors can be worked on.
I'll reveal what I paid for it later, would love to hear what everyone thinks first, what you see is what I got, 2 cylinder gas engine, no 3 point, wheel weights (no fluid), new rear tires one entirely new rim on the one side in the back, bucket, loader, giant cement block and a steering wheel that comes off when you use it up pull yourself up and pops you square in the nose, no extra charge! Front tires are weather checked pretty bad. They'll need replacing soon. Very hard to find information on these things, especially the tractor version, which is why I'd like to hear what anyone thinks I paid for it. It was worth it to me but I'm just curious.
    Anyways, enough talk, here's a picture! IMG_20180204_125737994.jpg Screenshot_20180130-205200.png

Congratulations on the tractor. You are going to love that loader. Maybe weld some hooks on it for a chain and lifting objects.

As long as your happy with the tractor the price is not a big deal.

I had a JD 440 dozer, but don’t know a 440 tractor. Same bones? Looks like fun, regardless!

A beefy framed tractor and beefy loader, 2wd, in this condition, makes me think $2000-3000.

I talked to the previous owner (whom I work with) and told him about the couple problems, he said he was going to try to find some time chains, if he has them he'll give them to me for the troubles. He told me when he bought it roughly 4 years ago, he paid $4500, he was asking $4000 and I talked him to $3200, which as it stands anyways with paying a buddy for his time and gas, the starter, hose and some fluid, I'm at a little over $3400. Which seems like a lot, but considering I was able to take on a welding job tonight only because I'm able to lift it with the tractor, which will bring in $500, give or take and this is just a single job, as far as I'm concerned I'm back down to $2900 just like that! Not to mention when I buy steel and other heavy material in the future, a hernia surgery is a bit more expensive than that tractor! Oh and to tie it all in, after talking to the customer tonight he said he deals with firewood, it just so happens, I burn firewood. So I may take him up on the offer to get a semi load of logs delivered in place of cash. Well see though, I've got plenty of wood for the time being but as you all know, more never hurts!:D

Hooks on the bucket and a hole for moving trailers etc, are a first on the list, followed by a set of forks and possibly a lifting bar that extends out a ways. Tires in the front are next. After that the cement block in the back needs to go, and be replaced with steel weights I can actually lift in the case I need to take them off for any reason.

Unfortunately not, 4pins and it's bucket free though. Bucket was on a Skidsteer until someone modified it.

Well in my part of the country what you paid would have been a fair price. Heck they get that much for a Ford 8N around here. I think you did alright.

I thought it was a skid steer bucket. I could not tell in the pics if they added the quick attach.

Here is quick attach adapter. It would be easy to add especially since you are a welder. Then you will have more possibilities with attachments.

Very nice machine and it sounds like it’s already earning its keep. Nice that it can help with chores and earn some money. Enjoy and keep us posted.

I'm going to have to look into that, my friend gets the Skidsteer plates for cheap for his splitter business, so to weld those on for the tractor I could dream up all sorts of attachments. On the other hand, that might get me into trouble with the wife just welding 36 different attachments that I don't need:rofl:

I've been wondering that since we bought our place, just got lucky with the snow except the first year. Now it can snow all it wants and I won't mind!:tractor::tractor:

Hell yeah! I'm far from a Deere guy myself, but nice tractor none the less! I love all tractors :D You will definitely love that loader on there. I use my 550 Oliver with a loader all the time. Looks like aboot a comparable size rig there. I second the other guy that said to weld hooks into bucket. Can be very handy. Just make sure to weld them Near structural support, not just right in the middle of the bucket as they can bend and crush the bucket with a heavy enough load on er.
