We lost our Bilbo yesterday. He was now our oldest at 14. He has had some tumor problems, they were benign but always growing, too many to take off. He seemed fine had still been eating and running around outside, quite his normal self. Then in the evening he got up to follow my husband outside and fell over on the way. My husband carried him back inside and he died within an hour on his bed.
He was born in our house, we have had him all his life. His mom had been in a shelter where they didn't have any warm area left for her to have her puppies. She came to us as a foster and had a very hard time with her pregnanvy, the babies were born by caesarean and Shiva was a great mom. When they were old enough mama Shiva was adopted by a very nice family, she really loved it there. Bilbo's brother also found an exceptional home, we often saw him and his parents, they named him Chance.
Little Bilbo stayed with us. We had called them Yin and Yang when they were born because of the way they looked. Little did we know that it fit them in every way. Chance by far the bigger dog always happy go lucky loving everybody and Bilbo shy and only really happy and outgoing at home. He was so sweet and loving and it came so sudden, we can't really understand yet that he is gone.

So sorry for the loss of your furry family member Lucy . You gave Bilbo a wonderful start to life thru fostering his mother. I know you are heartbroken now but hope that soon memories of happy times with Bilbo ease the ache.

Thank you all for your kindness. This just happened so suddenly. We knew he was getting old and had problems but we really thought we'd have him a couple more years. Going through his pictures helps some.

Big Blondie is not acting like herself, possibly a visit to the vet tomorrow.

Huh, temp is 100.4* (101*-102.5* ) Capillary reflex pretty good though I have not seen her drink today. She'll get up and come if called but basically either on the bed or couch the last like 18 hours, and winced after I asked her move over last night in bed.

Blondie is the same, thankfully not worse, but not better. She ate and drank a bit yesterday. I'm starting to wonder if she pulled a big muscle? She came to bed late last night and could not get up, I figured she'd lay down in her dog bed she but persisted (smart dog, she bonks the side of the bed to get our attention) so I boosted her rear and up she went. Another whince last night in bed and again after she jumped on the couch this morning. We bought a new mattress, not too high but it is 8" higher than the platform bed we've had for years. Her and Blackie horseplay pretty good for being older and can get very boisterous, No evidence but that it could be a good explanation. It's not like we have a steep ravine at our old house, flat a pancake here.

When Bentley was acting just as you described, my vet did some adjustments to his back. He had managed to get 3 vertebrae out of wack just by playing.

He was a new dog the next day, and it wasn't crazy expensive. $100 or so.

From what I've heard though, not many vets do this service anymore.

You are so lucky to have a vet who does that. We used to have a chiropractor who also did animals but he retired years ago. None of the vets here do it and the chiropractor in the area who does it is a quack.

OMG her owner is an idiot :headbang::headbang: Its her ear. I knew it was on the left side neck area but just cupped her lil face for a scrub and duh. I got confident/complacent with the Zymox and kinda forgot. Left ear is pretty bad, need to locate the bottle, conveniently not in my pet items tote.

( Lucy , she's had recurring yeast infections her entire life, poor thing is on prescription ointment every 6 months, they go away and come right back).

Found a bottle of regular Zymox, hydrocortisone flavor is empty. Hang in there Blondie, your dense momma finally realized!

Wildwest, I use alcohol with a few drops of vinegar to lower the ph to clean the ears and Animax ointment to follow it up once they have dried. Animax works great, antibiotic, anti fungal and anti inflammatory all in one. Get the 240ml bottle, not cheap around $ 100 but lasts for years, the small tubes are too expensive unless you have 1 Chihuahua.

Hi, I don't have a vet here with that kind of relationship, and the vet I do have that kind of relationship with cannot write rx's over state lines (I'm an hour away from my previous home but still across the border). If'n the opportunity comes around and you're interested, I'd love to work a deal on buying a bottle from you.

I love zhe Spider Hound, i watched quite a few pages of your hiking with the hounds thread.. i appreciate it. We only have rolling hills in the east and flatland in the west (highest elevation is around something like 400feet) but its still a joy to walk about with those mad mutts. And its even more fun for them if the terraine is more varying and it just looks like that on your pictures.

Hope that's all it is with Blodie and she gets well soon. I'm sorry wildwest, most vets are an arrogant lot, i know only too well. I don't get over to mine that often he is an hour away. Next time i'll get into town i'll ask, probably by the end of the week. In the meantime i need to look where i can order it in case he is too expensive. Let you know once i it get ready.
