Good to hear your back in the woods!!!! Backwoods Savage !! It has always amazed me how deer seem to enjoy equipment. They just don’t seem to run from it, weather atv or tractor or whatever they maybe are just puzzled by it?

I understand how you feel for sure!

When I had my logging accident last year I thought I would just jump back out into the woods and go at it, but it was not that way at all. Some of it was fear (you cannot have a near death experience and not be a little gun-shy I guess), but some of it was having strength too. I am over age 40 too, so with bad knees, recovering from that broken leg in that other logging accident I had, it is scary how slow I move sometimes, especially in contrast to how fast falling trees move in comparison!

Just take it slow, take a breather when you have to, and ease into it. It is all good; you are out in the woods after all.

    Backwoods; your doing GREAT!
This past May when I went back to work. I didn't know sometimes if my knees would hold me up from 1 step to the next. They really felt like they belonged to someone else and they Hated me !! But, I Had to work and so work I did. It was a very humbling time for me. I always made it a point to work as hard as I could. Many months later they had strengthened to the point that they are reliable and feel like my own knees again. Its wonderful ! Thank God !! So the young guys on the crew still out walk me. That's OK by me. I do my job . Complete my dispatch . Keep my job.
I was debating on cruising a woodlot I cut in tomorrow. On snowshoes , as there is over 3' of standing snow on the ground.
Your body will remember how you work and you will get rolling along. .My advice , DONT GET FRUSTRATED with you body not having the get up and go that it used to. As you regain your strength , you'll find your balance of work and r+r .

Take it easy and be slow to do too much and you'll be good as new in no time.

I just stopped in here for the first time in a year or more. Happy to see you are still at it old friend. Sadly firewood is no longer part of my life, except the occasional camp fire now. I miss it much and can appreciate how happy you must be to be get back at it. I don't know what your surgery was, but I wish you a full and timely recovery. I hope you and the "Ornery Wife" are well.

They know the difference between machines and especially atvs. They know it is me I think by the sound of the machine and the fact that when I go in back, I go slow and even go slower when I am near them. Will stop when I see them and I also talk to them. But they do react differently when I am on tractor vs atv too.

Good to hear from you again Steve. I had a problem as my gall bladder swelled to 8 times its normal size then burst. Dang near killed me. Judy is still having a hard time because those words still ring in her head. She was told before I went to surgery that I very likely would not make it though this one. So I'm not only having a problem recuperating from the surgery but also calming my wife down. But, we're getting better.

I saw the other thread. That's some pretty scary stuff. My wife left the house in an ambulance due to complications from surgery just over 4 years ago. I have an idea of how Judy feels. Take care of yourself and enjoy those beautiful woods of yours.
