I find the same thing and seems like burning less wood than when it was cut it today to heat for the week. 10*f here this morning had to add a few splits to the OWB then loaded it at 4pm with Red Oak, Ash and Hard Maple good till tomorrow afternoon.
Yep. Much more fun, too. Our first year here I was cutting and (hand) splitting on Sunday to get through the week. Did one and a half tri-axle loads and a dozen pickup beds worth of wood that way, weather be dammed. Never going back. That sucked! Though I did take up a few belt notches that winter, and remarkably managed to avoid breaking an ankle working the frozen snow covered log pile. 25 here, and staying mild overnight. Red maple and a bit of willow doing the deed.
Wife and I would go out and cut cherry, ash, and dead elm from hedgerows on Saturday to get through the next couple weeks she hates gathering wood to this day. I am still working on my Three year plan not there yet.
25 underneath as of an hour ago. Got an ice dam causing troubles in the living room/tv room. Gonna have to get up on the roof tomorrow and shovel snow/chop ice. Poplar in the stove but it's not dry enough so the Toyo OM22 is carrying part of the load. I ain't doin nothin this spring until I have 16 cord of wood home and 8 cord split and in the shed. For the past few years I've had my shed full before the end of November. Lord willing this coming fall, come moose season any day off work will be spent hunting. Not getting wood in.
A very miserable drive in the pre dawn yesterday morning as it was foggy for about 1 1/2 hours of driving! The roads were bare and the temps got up to the low 40's (41) for the afternoon. Today should be right around 30. Too early for spring weather; you ain't tricking me!
Currently sitting at -23 C feels -30 C, or -9 F feels -22 F. Received a nice steady dumping of snow yesterday so the trailer skirting is all better. Poplar in the reactor.
Never got into the 40s, but rather mid 30s. Rain expected this evening, temps to hover around 30°F tonight. We'll see if it ices up good!
42 and rainy here now, currently dropping. 20 is the low for tonight. Just lit a small pile of ash to keep the furnace from running.
It's 54° down here in extreme southern NH. We cut up my Norway maple score, and I did some splitting. Some red maple, and a round of Bradford pear, which has a grain like corn chips. Very tough, but a little at a time it gets done.
Warm and drizzling here - 40s are great! Got the munchkin out into the yard for a while after work, she thought slipping around and falling on her heinie on the frozen snow/ice layer was the best thing going. She kept angling for the stacks, too. Is 13mos too young for stacking? Pine and red maple keeping the water hot. Tomorrow looks like a great day to get back in the saddle with processing, as long as the rain doesn't pick up and make it too squishy. Got a date with this little gal and her friends planned. Saw is full, couple sharp chains on deck. Big boy pants ready. Antsy to get some trigger time!
51 today, no fire, spring is over, winter coming back, 35 now, low 28 tonight, loaded some silver maple in the stove. Monday night low 12 it wasn't fooling me either yooperdave
I wish I know you do too, I'm sure winter makes your work day harder. I don't have to go outside if I don't want to, except to get wood
Snowing like a screaming banshee right now! 4" of the white stuff with low visibility and slow driving on the highways! mid teens for temps.
50F @11PM? Contemplating weather I should relight the fire with a few sticks, or just go to bed, it's 65F in the house. Thinking bed.
