Isn't it beautiful to see the woods like this in January?!!! The ground is still frozen but very little snow out there where the woods are a little thin. In the thicker or heavier woods there is still snow but not a lot.

So at this picture, I had cut a little brush and then cut down a small maple (about 8" diameter) that I wanted down so we can get the tractor through there. Sadly, that is the only tree I cut. I did skid a couple of logs but any that were already down were frozen in so did not do much skidding.

Also, this is the first time I've tried to do this since the surgery. Wow. Everything got a lot heavier! Can hardly believe how weak this has made me. Not that I was that strong before but certainly stronger than I am now. So, I guess it will take a bit more time yet.

But, it really felt good to get out there even if I didn't do much. Saw a pastel of deer but they weren't scared. Just moved out of my way. Some just stood and watched me for a while. I like that.

Dennis, we care about you! Sorry but you are now older than 40 . This means your body will take longer to heal and gain strength back. Its all part of life, do what you want, what you can comfortably, not what you think you should be able too. As your body needs a break post more on FHC, that way everyone wins:handshake:. Then teach me how to accept this advice cause I hate this truth!:headbang:

But Midwinter that is a caribou, although they are in the deer family, I guess.

Perhaps the spelling is passel? I've never looked it up. Just an old saying of ours. A pastel, pastle, or passel. Who cares? How about a bunch?

    probably "parcel"
the white tailed deer here really don't very often form herds but far more often small groups of one or two females with their young or just friends with a male usually only during rut but not necessarily.
"group" is more comm0on here to refer to more than one or a pair.

No, not parcel. Let's just leave it as a bunch.

    Gaggle of deer? :D

Glad you got out into it Savage, even a short trip felt great I bet. If I may be so forward as to say it, heed the wise men upthread please and take it slow. This is one of the reasons it's so good to be ahead - so unforseen circumstances don't leave you cold. You know it, because we've all seen you preach it. You're the communal wise old grandpa here, and we don't want to see you laid up for a long stretch. Bad for morale, y'know? ;)
