It was really weird when we went riding in northern maine coming back in the dark at 4:30.
Maine needs it's own time zone...

    Glad you brought that up.
There’s an orthopedic surgeon friend who was out of Rochester for a long time, just took over at MCV (Medical College of VA). He did an extensive amount of research on bones and the calcium/vitamin D correlation.

In a nutshell, he said that the worst area of the country for brittle bones which contribute to fractures is upstate NY, VT, NH, MI, MN,WI. It’s just the cumulative lack of sunlight exposure. His recommendation was to go to Costco/Sam’s etc and purchase their Vitamin D capsules. A year supply is about $12, and he said to take 1,000 IU’s a day- which is the equivalent of 2 tic tacs. He feels that everyone over the age of 35 should be doing it, as Vitamin D is the building block for bone strength. For those that are diagnosed with Vitamin D deficiency, go with the amount prescribed by your physician; but for the rest of us go with that preventive amount to help ward off bad stuff down the road. And he said that it’s especially females that get their bone calcium depleted the fastest, so for the women in our lives it’s especially important.

Everyone I know in Seattle takes some kind(s) of vitamin D supplement.

I used to go to South Beach every February and my time guesstimate based on sun was always wrong. Just far enough west compared to here to be about 45 minutes different. You're hungry already ? It's 6:30 ? Can't be !

I used to drink lots of milk and never had a deficiency. Several years ago I had to stop or almost stop drinking milk and even ice cream (GADS!). I miss the milk. Sometimes it is too much and I'll just have to drink some with my meals but usually just with cereal in the mornings. But, I may go back to drinking it especially now.

Parts of the east coast were being considered on moving to Atlantic time last year.

Could New England actually change time zones—and what happens if it does?

Not my favorite news source by the way. Just gleaned the story from it.

Yes, daylight longer, but sunset is 4:44 PM and sunrise at 7:04 AM. We were dark before 4 PM just a month ago. Had about 7 hrs daylight then.

do you also notice a difference in the grass growing during the summer?

Spose not as the height of the sun would be much higher......thus reflecting in another area closer to the house....

Never seen the reflection or indentation after mid/late February.
I would easiy notice a difference in grass growth in that area. It's clay ground and has never grown grass worthachit !

Back when I tarped the stacks I noticed little areas of the tarp that look melted, couldn't figure it out till I was out there one day and felt the heat on my skin from the sunlight reflecting off a big bay window.

I have to take vit D and B12, Also a box lamp. Needs to be 10,000 lux to be effective to treat seasonal affective disorder. Try to get out in the sun every chance you get, esp. in the morning. It really is for your health.
