Meh, I was on the same thought process of firebox door as well. Who opens an ash pan door that often?

Not on a daily basis but certainly every week to do my weekly cleaning, to empty the ash pan, to fit the vac in there so fly ash does not end up in the house while cleaning the entire inside of the stove, and also to clean the ignitor cavity to clean it out .

When I clean, I open my firebox door when the stove has mostly cooled but before the stove shuts down. That way the exhaust blower doesn't shut off and it takes care of most of the fly ash while I'm cleaning.

I have to agree with lousy,Harman gaskets are usually not the problem(although he did not say it that way). This Accentra I rebuilt(been using it for 3 years)has the original door gasket, original hopper gasket, only gasket replaced was the tailpipe gasket, because I took it off to modify the tailpipe.Harmans tend to run higher "exhaust" pressure, which makes them a bit less efficient, but, they burn cleaner, with less maintenance.I replaced the door gasket,on my integra, could not get a factory one, seemed small,so,ripped it out, bought an oversized one,for a wood stove, had the same problem with stove(was many years ago)turned out the problem was stove was partially clogged. After 3 years of me running the accentra(with the old original door gasket)I see the door gasket is getting crappy,at the junction of where the ends meet,I think I may replace it this summer, yet, stove is working fine.Duane was/is a great designer/builder.

Englander control panel has the same capability....exhaust fan can be turned on by itself.

In test mode the distribution blower cycles on and off blowing in my face, so I open the door instead.

When I clean, I scrape most everything down into the ash bin from above, in test mode....I prefer to clean a cold stove. After the scrapings done, take a stiff brush, do the same, then, clean everything else with the vacuum

If the stove is still warm, then that works. Right up until you go to clean out under the burn pot. I make sure it is in test mode then because there shouldn't be any juice going to the igniter.

I prefer cleaning a cold stove and then usually do it this way. Cold stove is a must if performing the LBT at the end.

Speaking of door gasket is this normal wear and tear for a gasket put in at the beginning of the season . I open and do a quick vacuum every day . I figure if I have to let the stove cool down anyway I'd get better performance then just pulling the ash dumb.

Looks pretty worn for only a partial season, I have the original gasket (firebox door) and have put 20 ton through the stove with the same gasket and it does not look anywhere near that worn. Different stove though don't know if that matters or if its the quality of the gasket itself ?

You guys are going to laugh but my P68 is in it's 10th burning season and I've never replaced a gasket yet. I'm really not sure how it's possible, but they are still in good condition and no air leaks!

It must be all that opening and closing , it's even graphite coated . So what's an above average rope gasket ?

I have had good luck with my beast of a wood stove with Rutland , only replaced my ashpan gasket with Rutland on my P68 but always used Rutland on my wood stove.

Russel I should have added earlier what brand not to get as I ended up replacing it a week later after install because of the junk adhesive would not hold the gasket to the door so I had use an excessive amount which saturated the gasket and solidified it. I could have probably used some more patience(I did remove the door and had it laying flat) but the stove was down during the change and it was cold out. With Rutland after kneading the adhesive its much thicker and not absorbed by the gasket . The one not to get is Imperial brand .
