Im in the market for one and from what I can tell it’s the black one? Does anyone have the part number? Also I see baileys has the NWP coils are they any good? I’ve sniffed around on eBay, but who knows if most of those are right seems odd to be able to get one for $12
Ended up going with the aftermarket NWP coil from Baileys, figured I’d give it a try. I had a few minutes before work this morning and swapped it out. First impressions are good! It fits right in and the plug wire was long enough. I had read a couple places plug wire lengths were off and or the coil didn’t fit in the saw, but I had no troubles. Then the true test was to fire it up The saws hasn’t been ran in weeks and it was 35 ish this morning on the second pull it fired right up as apposed to the usual 6-8 pulls. Might have just been luck so I’ll have to do more testing. Of course I didn’t have time to play this morning but it idles rich and a bit higher around 3800 with some chain rotation and then WOT 12,600-12,800 with serious 4 stroke. Very quick throttle response as well so I’m pretty optimistic this is my fix. Hopefully this week I’ll get a few minutes behind the screwdriver and at the stump to tune it right.
Got a few minutes to mess with the saw yesterday afternoon. Same as the other morning two pulls it fired right up ran at high idle for a bit then dropped it to idle. It was running a touch fast so I messed with the L jet and idle speed and got it in a good spot. Then on the high end it was 4 striking out heavy in the mid 12k range. I adjusted the H side to around 13,1 and checked back at idle 3400 ish. Made a few cuts then made the video and it went right down the tubes!!!! Seemed ok still a bit rich I thought, but right at the end it stalled! I’ve had this trouble with it for a while and can’t get it ironed out! I messed around some more thought I had it figured out since I noticed the idle speed screw was backed all the way out so the throttle was almost completely closed when you let off. It ran fine from start up and idle but when you revved it up or put under load then let off it falls on its face and dies, unless you tickle the trigger. Another thing that happened was that all the sudden it was loaded rich at 11,8k wide open throttle don’t ask me how!! It was getting dark and 18 degrees was getting to my hands so I quite for the night before I took the hammer to it
Middle of the first cut I lifted some to see if the no load four stroke was there, it was. At the end of the first cut you can hear it start to think about stalling. Then at the end of the last cut was where it all went bad. Good thing I was videoing for you guys otherwise I’d have probly whipped it in the bushes!!!
Can you fire it right back up? I agree with Mike, sounds like carb. I bought a cheap china coil for my 394 and it only lasted a few months before the saw fell flat. Bought an oem one and it's been teets since. Not blaming your current one, just stating my experience with them.
Guess I’ll give it another try, but you guys might be right!! The only thing that it did seem to fix was the blast out of the exhaust on start up.
What’s good numbers as far as idle rpm and WOT no load rpm? I was hearing 2800-3000 and 13-13,100 on the top end?
So tried leaning the L a bit. ( took it to the point of wanting to stall then backed out to have decent throttle response, still around 3-3100 and the LI screw is all the way out) I then leaned the H up to 13,3k and it seemed to gain and pull nice in the cut. 9800-10,100 in the wood. As soon as I realease the throttle it falls on its face. I saw as low as 1800 then if it didn’t stall it slowly rolled back up to 2,6-2,8 if I let it idle a bit it would come back to 3k. Then it started to be a bit sporadic as far as numbers, not by much though. Here’s the plug. Tried sticking the OEM blue coil back on. Adjusted some settings, idle at ~3100 and wot 13,1-13,2 seemed to pull good as before and still stumble some after the cut. The other thing was the exhaust bark came back on start up. Conclusion... May need a carb ? New OEM coil? Vacuum/pressure test?
I’ll have to go check in a bit. Another thing I noticed that I wasn’t keen on was what sounded like a squeaky seal. Having the recoil cover and such off while changing the coil I rotated the flywheel and it almost sounds like a squeaky crank seal!! Wipers on a windshield kind of sound.
