    I did a couple years in a Pinto as well as few more years in Maverick, then Mustang II, that after I'm told my mother traded in their 1968? convertible Mustang on the Maverick. Also did many rides in the back of the swing tailgate white Buick station wagon in the back as a kid. Yep. No child carseats either.

    Gm sold a ton of pickups and vans that had gas tanks that were mounted between the frame and the body. I bet more people died in those vehicles from exploding gas tanks in collisions than died in pintos.

    Ahh, bean counters. :loco: :crazy::faint:

    Mid 70's to the late 80's. Full size vans and trucks.

    It was real. Gm paid a ton of money out to those affected, and even owners of those trucks. Also this was well after the pinto gas tank bad location issue.

    It came down to bean counters determining what the probability of deaths was, what the actual cost of death it would cost the company, vs the cost to add a liner in the tank to make it much safer.

    Oddly enough, the same BS happened recently with the GM ignition switch fiasco. Rather than keep the best interests of the car owners in mind, they went there route of the cheaper ( not just cost effective ;) ) ignition switch and saved pennies per car. That ended up biting GM big time, having to go bankrupt take a bail out.

    I'm a corporate Buyer. I get it.

    Ahhhh.

    The reasons I don't like GM, and probably will never again buy any of their products.

    If I recall correctly, GM sent a letter to all of us that owned one of the affected trucks, and offered a small amount more on trade in on a new truck. So nice.of them.
