Not feeling much resistance when I shut the ashpan door on the P68 , had a little weird burn briefly and am wondering if this may possibly be a contributing factor. Regardless am going to replace the gasket just want to make sure I am going to use the right gasket. The actual door I was able to adjust it so that it fit tight and snug so I did not replace the gasket but the ash pan door seems awfully loose and I am thinking as the stove functions as an airtight system this should be tight as well . Correct ? Any suggestions on what size the gasket should be as the one called out for seems small, maybe or maybe not . Done it , know about it, would appreciate any input.
    Thank you kindly

    Daniel

I've been told Harman's operate with a negative draft so it would stand to reason if air from outside the stove starts leaking into the burn chamber, it will compromise the negative draft and adversely affect the stove's performance.

    Luney it’s a standard 3/8” x 5’ rope gasket. Try this:
    HARMAN Stove ASH DOOR Gasket 3/8"x5' Advance P38, P43, PC45, P61, P68 1-00-53716 | eBay

If you don’t want to buy it online you can get one at any hardware store. Or at your friendly Harman dealer for the special Harman price.

The 3/8 seemed small when I got it, but it made for a nice snug fit on my P61a when I replaced the gasket earlier this year.

Thanks TT and Bogie I agree with you Bogie seems like 3/8" is way to small ? But will give it a go and if it taint tight enough ill grab another one thicker plenty of places around here to get them. Don't want the beast down to long and let the house cool down and have to heat it back up guess I could turn the oil burner on to compensate second thought Nope did that yesterday to clean not doing it twice in one week !
    Thanks again

Hmmm, still on original ash door gasket after 8 seasons. Maybe replace it on off season \as yes it will will affect the burn.

Let us know of replacing the gasket livens up the flame :)

Interesting when you close the door G does it feel like its sealed fairly tight ? Mine does not seems to just barely seal and if I remember it use to seal better which required more pressure to close it. The door to the stove itself loosened up and I checked it out and saw that you could adjust the latch which I did and it seals quite tight, not the case with the ash pan door bah. Did not get to it today but will soon the stove is burning good but think that funky burn which did not last long has something to do with the pressure of the stove, just a gut feeling hopefully I am correct.
Can't really gauge it by seasons as I burn a lot of pellets and the stove gets a serious work out most of the time so things will wear quicker, I bet one of my seasons equals 2-3 of yours possibly even more.
    Thanks again

I'm still hanging onto the 1/2" door gasket that I got thinking the 3/8" was too small (I ordered both and tried the 3/8's first - it gave a nice tight fit). I'm sure the 1/2" gasketwill be good for something at some time - even if I use it to seal up gaps in the ceiling :D

All modern pellet stoves (afaik) operate on negative draft.

I believe the SPC50 is a combination natural draft, pressurized draft.

I have some 1/2' kicking around and will get some 3/8" first to try and see if it snugs up. If not then the 1/2" is going in ! this has set my OCD into action no stopping it now . Should be able to find some 3/8" local but hmmm maybe not on Sunday , will see.

Ended up finding some 3/8" at Lowes and wish I hadn't as the adhesive sucked pretty bad, had to use more than I would have liked to and ended up solidifying the entire gasket.
So this weekend out I went and got another kit from the usual manufacturer rutland and voila all set now and happy with the performance. Stove working like charm since the new gasket went in.

On my 18th season with the same ash door gasket.....the door simply isn't opened all that much....since its a Harman, possibly the Harman gnomes sneak in at night and fix it......Unlike those other stoves, I heard Harman units reduce global warming........read it somewhere on the internet.

Those of us that burn lousy/middling pellets with lots of heavy ash that doesn't blow out of the pot need to open the fire door more often. I do so 2x day when the stoves are in constant use to clear out the piled up ash.

Its good you empty the ash early because of the high ash pellets you burn, but even in the days of burning NEWPs and Michigan :jaw:, I maybe opened it every two weeks

B you’re talking about opening the firebox door, not the ash pan door, correct?

LOL - nope, the firebox door. I open the ashpan door every 2-3 weeks.

Ah, I see how I confused everyone - this is a thread about ash door gaskets - my bad! :emb:
