My last sled, a 1995 SkiDoo Touring 440 long track, with two of my kids. My daughter, in front of me in this pic, just turned 19, and my oldest son, behind me in this pic, is in his third year of college now.
Gonna start with "past" rides. My last Scooter (08 Dyna) My last bike (04 KFX 250F) and my sons 1st Quad (Suz LT 50) Last sled (99 Polaris 600 XLT) with Rail buggy in the background My sons last Quad (Typhoon 125cc race ready!) Bad @$$ little quad. Still have it, but am trying to sell it.
Now with current rides. My son has an XR 70 and his Typhoon that is currently still here, but I am trying to rid them if this garage!! My 400ex (big bore 440, with cam, 450R shocks, and numerous other mods) And I just bought my son a 300ex for his 12th b day. He has been riding since he was old enough to walk. He had a PW 50 and LT 50 long before he could walk. I had a Fourtrax 70 in 1986 and that is what started it all. Had numerous dirt bikes and race quads (Blaster, Banshee, CR 125, KTM 250 SX) while I was growing up and into my adult years. After breaking both shoulders, both sides of my collar bone (clavicle), screwing up my left knee and left hip (ran over by ATV)!?! I am done with 2 wheels.
'94 R100R, bought new with 12 miles, it's got 230K on it now, still runs like a top, new valves and guides twice, a new cam once, and new bearings and reshimming of the tranny once, has never left me stranded. It is not for sale! I've also got my dads '76 R75/6 mothballed in my basement, waiting for funds to be restored, I grew up on the back of that one.
Years ago I had a couple of R90s's.. One smoke and silver and then updated to a silver and orange.... they were really fun bikes to ride.. I use to pile the miles on those.. First one I put 10,000 miles on in like 5 months..
Here are my bikes.. this first one is my 1973 Kawasaki H1, which is a 2 stroke 500cc triple. That's me in front of the telephone office in Concord Massachusetts, where I was a toll testman as my first job out of college. I am 23 in that picture. Here is my next bike. It is a 1975 XS650OHC that I really loved. Then I had this 1982 Honda Nighthawk 750 ...this baby went fast. Now today I have two bikes. The first one is a 1998 Honda Valkyrie I bought new in a crate in 2001. It currently has 99858 for mileage. It will be part of the estate when I die. This is such an impressive motorcycle it deserves a 2nd picture. I also own this 2007 Harley Davidson ElectraGlide. It's nice too. Here's a pic I took today.
My brother in law had a 500 triple,, he said those were like rockets! I believe they made a 750 2 stroker too, another rocket!
Charlie, they were crazy fast, but they didn't go around corners well, and they were very peaky. The 750s had a wider power band but were much faster.. of course in 73 and were talking 12 second quarter miles off the showroom floor.
One other cool vintage bike I owned before working for Harley, was a 1972 810cc Dunstall Norton built with Paul Dunstall racing parts... Borani aluminum rims, 5 spd trans, dunstall pipes, clip on handle bars, etc. Even a Fiberglass fuel tank.. Ceranni front end. Racing frame, should have never sold this bike... I bought it used form a friend.. Only weighed 380 lbs.
Very nice, you probably don't want to know what those R90S are worth today, might make you sick. The mechanic I use for anything major, was the mechanic on the factory BMW racing effort in 1974, when BMW won the superbike championship with Reg Pridmore riding an R90...Daytona orange...nice. It's not hard to rack up the miles, they are some sweet machines, not the flashiest or the fastest but they will put a smile on your face mile after mile.
Once you hit 4000 rpms,, the German engineering came to life... what sweet motors! The dealer use it have me run Castrol Racing oil with liquid tungsten.. Don't even know if they make that oil anymore..
Coworker friend of mine has one of those old 750 triples with a sidecar. He followed me home down the interstate and I laughed out loud when I looked in the mirror and saw the blue fog he was laying down.
That Valk is absolutely AWESOME............They were a fantastic piece of engineering. Still love the styling to this day.
