Received this email this morning from a friend.

"Well for better or worse your memory is still alive at Hearth.com. (Sorry to mention that place Scotty) Firefighterjake posted this today. Maybe you already saw this but I figured I'd pass it along.

I have no doubt that somewhere in Michigan right now there is a certain old fella sitting in front of his Fireview still enjoying both the beauty and the heat . . . and telling anyone who will listen that splitting wood vertically while sitting on a milk crate is truly the best way to split one's wood.

Woodstocks are well loved by most folks here . . . in fact their Progress Hybrid is the one stove that made me reconsider my purchase. Their customer service is well known . . . it's truly hard to go wrong with them."

I guess they haven't forgotten me yet.  I can imagine that it gave a couple of guys fits when they read that. But, basically being their #1 poster at one time there are bound to be a few that still remember. Also, any mention of me used to be banned and deleted but perhaps they are finally over that one. Tis okay either way with me. I have a happy home.

No doubt you left some lasting impressions over there. Too bad he did not make the jump or dual citizenship here.

I was kind of wondering how this place came to be. Everyone seemed so tolerant and nice that I figured people migrated (wrongly) from Forestry Forum. I have never been to Hearth Forums and have neither anything to say good or bad, and love the guys over on the Forestry Forum, but the owner is a bit heavy handed at Moderating. I could understand that to a point, he has a good thing going and has no interest in going back into the woods to work for a living I assume, but it was no place for me. I never said anything figuring it was just a personality quirk between him and I, until someone posted the same feelings I had over on TractorbyNet yesterday.

I have spent some time over there lately, but I feel guilty about it. My heart is here, and I I know I should find more topics to start and not just reply too, I just find myself checking out just a few sub-forums and that is it.

I'll try to be creative and conjure up some topic starters.

Not to get all sappy but BWS was a huge influence(the biggest) in me becoming a successful wood burner. I remember thinking “who is this wood burning veteran willing to take time to mentor us newbies”. Then I met him in person, the rest is history. :D

A long time ago I did try to contact Jake as I have, or had, his email address but he never answered. I just thought perhaps Craig had him sort of tucked in... No harm done.

btw, I'm not trying to stir up old feelings and please don't let this thread go south and everybody start bashing that forum. We've been through that before and put a stop to it, rightly.

Scotty Overkill has to like this. I believe he was perhaps the first to get the boot over there.

No bashing the other place for me, I have never been there and like it so much here that the question really is, "why would I leave here anyway?"

Something that blew me away here was the generous offer by a member on here to let me stay at their home in Boston should my cancer treatments need a stay in Boston. When you live in Maine that is HUGE because major health issues means trips to Boston. But who would do that to a relatively unknown guy? I HOPE I have conveyed that I am trustworthy, but to be that gracious speaks volumes of that person specifically, but also the people on here.

My only wish is that there was more sub-forums to post in. This is not a complaint, just a wish as I find myself posting about woodlot management, equipment, but the rest of my life kind of gets lost in the "everything else sub-forum". I wish we had a "Rural Living", or "Woodworking", or "Land Clearing" sub-forums, not to duplicate what other forums do, but so I do not leave here to post there. Its just without specifically labeled sub-forums, it is hard for me to think of threads to start.

I’m right there with you. All those topics sound interesting to me as well but I’m just not that creative. I do enjoy reading others posts though.:)
