    Thanks Earl, that helps. :handshake:

A Thermguard, with a 2nd thermostat wired in parallel downstairs installed up high by the water pipes / set to 34F as a fail-safe, is the setup I think we're going to go with here.

5 minutes if you install on an old style thermostat. Probably that long it you install on a newer type, or directly to the boiler.

I was being conservative.....you're right though.....5 minutes is all that's really needed, even on newer stats.

Hey, even if it only lasted 3 years, heat tapes are not that expensive. But if you run the power cord to an outside outlet, but leave it un-plugged until you know real cold is coming, then plug it in....I'm pretty sure it will last a long time. A cheap, pretty easy solution, IMO.

The Therm Guard is sold by a guy named John Bridgerman. I "met" him at the "other" site back in '08......real nice guy and has a great, simple product. I'm going to post this on a stand-alone thread so many will see it, and there is a discount code you can use at checkout on their site.....put 101657512 in the discount box and it gives you 10% off......free shipping too.

Then another ten plus to remember where the heck you left it!!!

    Sigh.........

At least G-man found the round tuit. o_O

now we're gonna move the snow!

It's an International I6 with a Trojan bulldozer blade attachment (a one of remaining example, probably), used by Bradley Airport in the 1950's- 60's as a snow plow and airport tug. it will be in my shop soon as we've already agreed on a price. Has not run in 10 or 15 years, but the engine is free, i'm told.

Now that is what I call a project. That will consume a lot of time and money, but in the end you have the potential of a real work horse.

I have a close friend who did that just in time, but the company Unitil who you have to sell your energy back to is claiming that they cannot accept anymore energy from consumers.
So it is no longer an option somehow, it is sickening that this company is permitted to get away with this crap and here in MA who has the consumer protection law ? It is beyond frustrating and I am anticipating someday you will here about someone loosing it and committing a horrific crime against this company. Lets hope not but it is certainly a possibility as one of the towns near here there is a tremendous amount of poverty but then again they are on the government handout and I do not know if our government pays for their electricity. Sad situation without a doubt......

Ok, got a question artc - is that a spare tire leaned up against the Tractor, or is this a 'dually' setup? Because if that's a dual rear axle, that would be one bad-azz tractor! That plow blade looks like it means business. Congrats!

Came home to a cold stove. This morning was rushing out and didnt fill it. No worries at it needed a cleaning anyway.

Cleaned the firebox and igniter area and started her up. Took a while but got a very small flame that wasnt getting any bigger after over 5 minutes then I noticed the flame guide was still on the floor

    All better now :)
