A blower will remove heat from the stove faster, the stove will burn more wood to replace the heat removed. Aka, burn more wood. You will get more heat off it quicker, but it will burn more wood.

Weird. Actually using a blower tells me otherwise. I've used less wood and have had longer burn times in a colder winter with the blower than without.

You will not use more wood. It does not burn faster.

Hmmm, I would have to think about that....possibly for a long, long time.
Yeah, I can see that if the two Kings will cover you in the shoulder season....good output control on those. How likely are you to come up with two Kings anytime soon? How far are you willing to cast your net? How about contacting some dealers and tell them to call you if they get a trade-in....although if someone is running a King, I don't know how likely they would be to step down in size to, say, an Ashford. Has anyone heard of dealers taking trades, and what becomes of these stoves if they do?

This is the reason why I am buying a second 30 this summer. I just don't know how long it will take to find two used Kings at the right price. I will be running a Defiant/30/30 combo until I can find two used Kings. This will prevent me from rushing to make a decision while increasing the convenience level of this setup.

My net is nationwide if the price is right. I will either drive and pick up the stove or arrange for pick up and shipping. Once I find the second King I will sell a 30.

Exactly, the fan improves efficiency as it does with any type of heater.

This makes no sense. The stove buns more wood when it sucks in more air, it's got nothing to do with a blower circulating the heat away from the stove. Woodstock would have done well to design a blower as an option, they could have still hit their $2k goal offering it as an option, an OAK for the IS is also a $ option.

    SO NO TO BLOWERS!

Who in the heck wants to hear a FAN running, with a beautiful wood stove burning? To me, the whole point of having a wood stove to burn wood is so I can SHUT off the noisy, smelly, costly "BLOWER" on my oil burner gun, and hot air circulator!

    So once again:
    1. SAY NO TO BLOWERS.
    2. Blowers burn more wood.

True for stoves with manual controls. The tstat on the BK will adjust for the blowers being turned on to maintain the stove temp. For a given tstat setting, I find the burn rate to be pretty consistently 50% higher with the blowers on high compared to off. Very useful/necessary in my house in January but I wholeheartedly agree with the idea of not using them when they aren't required. I burn without blowers for the majority of my 7 month burn.

    Gotcha.
Nah, just find willing forum members to relay it across the country for you when they happen to be going your way.
    No one, agreed.

Oh, I've thought about guilting a forum member into giving me a hand. :D But, the core area for BK stove listings are in the Washington/Oregon area. Not many members here are in that area.

Blowers are nice to have when the temps get down to single digits. If you are a room or two away, I don't think you'll hear the fan much, but will appreciate the heat.

Big different in heating my house with and without the blower going on the stove, even with it just running on low. In order to heat a home you have to circulate the air... no one can argue that.

Without the blower the area around the stove gets warm, but the heat doesn't get to rest of the house well.
I have had to run with no blower with -15* temps (power was out) and I ended up sleeping on the couch because the bedroom was cold.. maybe 55-60*.

With the blower going and a fan at the end of the hall the rooms stay at 65-70* without trouble.

The blower on my stove isn't very loud with it on low. The stove is maybe 4ft from the TV and I don't have to run the TV louder than usual.

There has been a few posts by people who added blowers to their wood burners this year (due to the extreme cold) that did not have them before and they were impressed with the performance gained.

Yes, and I was one of them. Last year we had a mild winter, and still I had issues moving heat around the house. This year I installed the blower and it proved essential to even out and to spread the heat. Makes the wood burner have some of the advantages of a pellet stove owner.

    Agreed. That is EXACTLY why I'm informing you properly;
    1. Say NO to blowers.
    2. Blowers burn more wood. (Yes, they can offer more heat if required, as long as you are aware you will burn more wood).
