Yeah I like -10 to -20 as well but thought I would bust your chops. Im not an expert on your weather but it seems to me that youve had some pretty sustained cold this year. How are things stacking up to last year?
We seem to be getting hit more than usual with arctic systems here this year. October was decent, November was cold, December had about 8 nice days but insane wind, and then mostly deep freeze weather since then. With a few odd warm up days to keep the fools guessing! Coldest year since getting the stove. Have you ever checked out Environment Canada historical data? Google that, and you can see how your previous winters stack up compared to this one. It's neat once you wrap your head around heat degree days.
9 outside windchill is -13 and it is a snow storm they where calling for up to 3 inches but 7 inches has already fell and the snow is not expected to quit till noon tomorrow it is blowing a drifting pretty bad and this stuff is powdery. It's 71 in here with mixed load of green and seasoned red oak to keep the fire going as long as possible. it doesn't look deep in the photos but it is.
jake wells, and it’s coming my way. 2-4” or 4-8”, take your pic of which weather forecast to believe.
Same as here. You never really know what youre going to get. When we get snow fall warnings we get very little and then when there is no warning we get it big. If you get the chance report back which one it ends up being.
Post the link .. I'm in Minnesota. We get some nasty cold even in central MN. I don't recall having it weeks on end like this year. On below 0f . Then it's warmer in Alaska then in MN. Crazy. Coldest night so far was -22f . Right now it's 2 f feels warm lol. Hardy burning any oak slabs compared to -20f . Heat550 Sent from my LG-H900 using Tapatalk
This brings up a good point to mention. Wind chill . Facemasks ! Or Arctic Parkas. As resilient as the skin on our faces is. Its no match for real cold. Having seen people that have lost their nose and part of their lips to sever frost bite. Its nothing to fool with. Even frost nip will have long term effects. Face masks can be the greatest things since sliced bread . Or the most cussed at piece of winter gear there is. But, if they protect your face and warm your breath. They are doing their job. Many aren't made very well. . They don't cover suficently. My favorite is the Cold Avenger. But I always have a few different ones with me as they get iced up and its hard to breath thru ice. If you have a full face Balaclava that is wind proof ( they are a very good choice) you will probably need to poke some breathing holes thru them where your mouth sits in them. A carpenters awl works great for the job. Try it on. Get it situated comfortably. Try breathing thru it. If it takes A lot of work to draw a breath . It needs some venting . Use lipstick or something to mark where your mouth is. Take it off you head and poke some holes thru just the mouth area. Trial and error will tell you how many holes you will need.
That's pretty cool .. here in the states wunderground.com has the best historical weather graphs that I found it has custom one you can pick start end date on graph .. Gives me good Idea why I burned so many oak slabs . Here's example. You will see why I burned 7 bundles Heat550 Sent from my LG-H900 using Tapatalk
-2 F outside ... 72 F inside ... Got Oak and Hedge pulling the weight today... Not suppose to get too warm today... Like 4 to 6 degrees... This has been kinda of nice... The kid is off school again today... So he'll keep the house nice and toasty with some elm...
14* here loaded up with hard Maple and a pine split to help get "er" going. My son stocked up the porch wood boxes last night and brought some Apple in the mix. I grabbed a piece this morning, and said, no, I'm not going to waste Apple when it is this warm.
