Here we go....in thirty minutes, I take the first dose of the godawful stuff that will turn my @$$ into a fire hose. 4:00 AM tomorrow morning, time for the second dose and then at 10:00 AM, it's showtime. While this may be a humiliating situation, a coworker who is a good friend had his first colonoscopy two weeks ago. He's 54. They hope that the tumor didn't get into his lymph nodes and that they will only have to remove a foot of his intestine. After that, he has to wear a colostomy bag for two months.

Anybody ever had a colonoscopy? What the heck am I in for?

You know in the old days, they used to send up a sketch artist; be thankful:p

It’s a good thing to do. Did it at 50. Said they didn’t want to see my a&$ for ten more years. They say prostate cancer is very treatable if caught early, you owe it to yourself and family to do it.

    I have had two.
I lost my sister to colon cancer.
It's not that bad in the general medical world.
    Better to know.

    Ever had a cystoscopy?
I'll take the colonoscopy any day.

Golf66, you'll be fine. The prep is worse than the procedure. Wife had one done a few years back and doesn't even remember it being done. I'm next and not stressing about it. As long as the Dr. isn't Gandalf, it shall pass.

..or, the photos will look like someone used a 3/4" drill bit on a cucumber, lengthwise. Yeah, that wouldn't be good. (Ha!! Get that visual out of your head!!)
You'll be fine, don't stress. Post the results, not the photos. Good luck.

Dose # 2 went down 30 minutes ago and ominous rumblings are beginning. I haven't had food since Sunday and am really hoping they don't find any polyps because you have to go on a restricted diet for a few days.

I've had 4 in the last 3 years. Prep is the worst part. They gas you and you never know they did anything. I had a polyp removed and didn't know the difference. No restricted diet afterwards. They pump air in during the procedure so you may have some discomfort and cramping during recovery. You'll be passing gas like a foghorn. The only time in your life when women will be telling you to let it rip. If cramping gets too bad, lay on your stomach with your butt in the air. Sounds ridiculous but it helps to move the air out. Good luck!
