EDC Knife thread

I am angling towards getting a Spyderco Sharpmaker myself at some time, but that Worksharp does look intriguing also. I watched a couple You-tubes on the WS and it's kind of a toss-up between the standard version and the KO version. They both have their merits. Cabela's is the only retailer that carries the Worksharp, both the standard and Ken Onion, so I'll wait until they have another sale (and if I have any money).

 

Good ol' Case Stockman, kinda' like a Zippo,,there's no substitute.
Admittedly, I check out the lockblade every now and then but can't get myself to.pull the trigger.

I ordered from Northern Tools.
I like the adjustable guide and its ability to add the tool sharpening cassette.

 

A buddy of mine has one of the Spyderco's and suggested I should buy one. I was afraid I couldn't keep a consistent angle without a guide.

But you have to sharpen a knife a lot, you clean many fish every day with it.

 

I look at it this way, as long as you have a knife in your pocket, that's all that matters. It's not the knife that's important, it's the man (or woman) that carries it.

Awesome! I think you made the right choice. I'm not a fan of the 484. I've been wanting the Megumi for a while now. Might have to scratch that itch some day.

Tim, be very cautious with your best blades. I think the learning curve is steep with keeping tip shape correct. Those santoku's are very easy and great to learn on but when you go to a curved tip, things can get fugly. Hopefully these pics will show what I'm trying to convey. Right at the point, the angle steepens greatly.

For this reason, I don't run my best blades through it any longer. It happened on my mini grip too.

These types of profiles are very prone too, due to the way you have to lift the handle to keep the blade on the belt.

I've watched tons of how-to vids on the KO. I lift the handle as directed to keep the angle of the grind correct, but it still happens. I'm sure it's OE, just sharing my experience here.
Another negative is the marks from drawing it across the angle guides. Now they all get masked.

I have a Worksharp and just use the medium belts. Takes about 10 seconds per knife.

 

Got myself a PM2 for Xmas. Was debating so much between it and the Benchmade 940. I figured I really like my Delica, the spidey-hole and figured might as well stick with a manufacturer I know I like. And the PM2 was $50 cheaper.

So far love it. The Flick-factor is defintely fun.

 

It is a nice one for sure, lots of handle space to get a real good grip and cuts like the "divil".

I'm jealous. Been a spyderco fan since 1990. Grabbed an endura and delica then, and still have them. Molded clip and all. I have thought about sending them in an having the clips converted but I just can't bring myself to do it.

 

I love my worksharp. Just have the basic edition but me o my does it get those things sharp as they come... the belts don’t last long though but aside from that...
