Just watched it tonight. Hopkinton, New Hampshire. Mary Congorin started the Wood for Warmth program. It's a wood bank the town maintains. Volunteers CSS wood and deliver it… folks bring a voucher for some wood. Neighbors helping neighbors. Maybe some FHC guys from the area know about this program? Very cool story … and… on NBC… and they didn't even say carbon ONCE! Guess burning wood is cool after all. Think of it … firewood hoarders… are cool… … that news clip has got to end up on NBC's website soon.
Let em know what you guys are doing. TV stations love stories like yours… and, folks who need help heating with wood might see it. And, who knows, that might bring even more volunteers. Funny how that works. Good people doing good…
Kinda funny eh? Good people have probably been doing that for tens of thousands of years. And NBC is reporting it like it is "New". Very good they are reporting that though. I think that story has an effect like the commercial that is similar. If people see others doing good, hopefully it will inspire them to give it a try.
They have that in a town just north of us, Hannawa Falls New York. According to a resident from that town some people would get the wood free then sell it.
Now that's wrong, why do some people have to be so da** lazy that they would stoop that low to take advantage of someone trying to help them out.
Could be drug addiction, or just plain laziness. Or both. You never know. That is why I asked a similar question in another thread about it. How do you know it is going to someone who "really" needs it and is not taking advantage of good people?
In the original post it was mentioned a voucher, that would be a good way to help cut down on people taking advantage.
Unfortunately there are people out there that will always "work the system" They will have to answer for their mistakes.
I would rather not see wood burning on the news or getting popular. It will ultimately ruin it for everybody. Drive up the demand, dive up prices, and regulation, and deplete the supply. People burning wet wood, smoking out neighborhoods and town will start banning it. It's not as easy or glamorous as it looks, so don't let the media glorify it. I'd be fine to keep it on the down low.
I think there are way too many lazy azzes for this to be a problem, there are also alot of people afraid of burning wood.
Just install a stove, sulk at church that you are too disabled to procure wood, charity cut happens, local news covers it, voila! I know it's cynical, but this chit happens. Let's just keep it backwoods. No need to advertise, no need for the media. A half million lazy people go buy a buck stove and burn trash and green wood for half a season will inflict quite a black eye. Fuel prices, and home insurance will rise, a scroungers will suffer. I don't see any good coming from the media trying to make ratings from us wood hoarders. remember Y2K? At least there might be a lot if stoves and chainsaws to be had on the cheap.
