Thats not tulip poplar... Tulip bark is more grey, and the center heart wood is dark when cut. I have tons of it. Im sticking with Maple. All silver maple.
I’m thinking either tulip or cottonwood variety. That being said... this is an oak I’ve got out back I like to climb in once in a while I’m thinking a red variety, just as a comparison to the OP smooth bark stuff in the pile.
Surprisingly very few nuts from that tree, aside from the 220 pound one that gets stuck up there on occasion
Thanks guys, I know the smaller pieces are maple. I should have specified. I have not got a chance to split it yet. I hope it's not elm....
I'll throw in my 2 cents. I am gonna say rock oak or chestnut oak maybe? At least that's what I think.
Red Oak variant (red, scarlet, pin, black). All of it. Fresh cut or split will reveal the color again.
