Just Curious... How many of you keep some kind of a steamer or kettle on your stoves? I keep a Tea Kettle on a trivet on the top shelf of the Fisher. Being on the Trivet it is good and hot but rarely whistles. I have seen some pretty artistic and fancy steamers, but can't justify the money...after all I already have the Teak Kettle and it's practical (like me). Any unique steamers that you would share a picture of?
Nothing fancy, just a heavy black tea pot. I buy bulk spice to make a potpourri mix to stew in there and freshen up the house.
I see some pots/steamers on metal trivets, and some right on the stove. Just personal preference, or is there another reason?
We’ve got the same one! When we are burning flat out running around 450-500 stove top it’s at least 4 fills a day. Also cleaning of the crusted calcium at least once a day too. It helps some, but I think we could use a bit more in the air. I’ve also got one of those heat run fans by it and it seems to circulate some of the steam.
I’ve got a trivet and only use it for my coffee percolator after the coffees been brewed just to keep it warm. The kettle stays right on the stove top otherwise it doesn’t seem to make any steam. Might be something that certain set ups need though, trial and error I guess?
Urban Dictionary: steamer steamer The act of dropping a turd in the lawn around winter time. the cold temperatures create a fog to arise from the pile of steaming poo Dude1: dude! look your poop has something coming out of it! Dude2: nah man its a steamer Nope, I'm gonna pass on this stove mod.
The problem with a steamer is lime/calcium and whatever building up. But if you put distilled water in the steamer it is no problem. I don't want to have to buy distilled water (I'm cheap). We just use a simple kettle to put water in. Yes, you will get best results if not on a trivet but right direct on the stove top.
I use an old 2 gallon commercial double broiler that Mrs. TD brought home from work. I can get about 1.5 gallons a day output yeah its ugly (just use the top pot, no lid) Water can get to 170*
I use pretty much the same thing except it’s a 10 dollar 3 gallon stock pot From Wally World. We have a high iron content so I get some build up but it’s in the cellar and I’m pretty much the only one that has to look at it
yes. I have the hardest water in the area. Around 18 grains... And the softener ran out of salt last week. The whole stove top has white spots from splashing the water when filling...
Yeah I do have a kettle on the stove, it serves a slightly useless/ful purpose. The humidity is high enough about here that the simple window opening will let the humid air in. This xmas break I was burning 24 hours a few days a week and temps were below freezing. Really dry inside so I had that kettle going and my diffusers as well. Mine sits on a different trivet today, someone from this forum was kind to send one to me. He needs no introduction. Thank you sir you know who you are!
