Mahindra 4540 4WD

I hadn't did the neighbors driveway since we received some snow so I decided to do it since I won't be out doing it in the wind chills we have coming in, done.

I'm just having a few cups of coffee and then it's back outside to do a fluid check on the tractor and roof rake what I didn't get done yesterday.

 

We have over a foot coming down now so I will be up at tomorrow morning. Luckily I don’t work until 1:00 so I have some time to get to it. It’s blowing like crazy so no visibility or cause to clear it halfway through. Not sure if you guys got this big storm yet or you will at all.

 

We won't get much snow from this but they say are wind chill could hit -45 once the cold and winds move in.

I did a fluid check today (all was good) the tractor has the battery maintainer on it for this cold stretch. We have a small fire in the Liberty with the pellet stove going in the opposite corner in the basement, it should be nice and warm in here tomorrow morning.

 

Yes the winds are ripping through here pretty good now. Very hard to see on my way home from work this afternoon. They are saying we are going to get a bit of rain/freezing rain over night then another few inches of snow. I plan on going out with the roof rake to pull the snow of the shelter for the tractor.

I did pick up a Battery Tender jr to keep the battery charged up and it seems to be working well. It was available locally, had good reviews and I needed one now. I had to replace the fuel line from the filter to the pump last night and it seems to have fixed my fuel leak. That with all the coolant lines I have tightened/replaced clamps has kept under the tractor dry.

Should be a good morning of snow moving. Hopefully the power stays on but if it doesn’t I picked up a few days worth of generator fuel.

 

Will you get over the foot of snow you mentioned in the previous post?

The battery tender is a great buy for this type of weather, I left ours off last night because our low was 14.

I always hated plowing with the truck because the tires were more of a road tire and even with 500 pounds of sand in the back the tires would spin some but with the tractor, so far I've taken it through our woods after a 24 inch snowfall.

A foot or more does happen here a few times a year. Last year we broke the 24 hour record and got 32 inches in a 24 hour period. The drifts in front of the barn were over 6 feet high. The drifts make it hard to judge what we have down now but I would say about a foot. It was accumulating quickly this afternoon and evening.

I went out around 9 to pull the snow off the roof of the tractor shelter but the wind had it cleaned off for me. Unfortunately the wind blew a lot of snow in the shelter as well. I unplugged the battery tender as it’s not the water proof one. It said the battery was fully charged and it’s nit that cold so I don’t think I needed it anyway.

 

It's nasty out up here even with the Pines slowing up some of the wind, our truck that is outside started up and the tractor battery is still on the maintainer in the maintain mode so it should start.

Sunday I'll start the 4540 up and then plow some snow, it's the fluffy stuff so it will be some easy pushing.

 

That wind is a crankin here and deliverin some of Lake Ontarios finest. Looks like we are taking one for the team and giving you boys up north a break.

 

They have the winds here at or around 15 gusting to 25 mph, tomorrow should be the last day of this cold blast and then some warmer temps with maybe some rain on Thursday.

 

It sure is, after I get our driveway cleared I'll be doing some roof raking.

 

After taking off the battery maintainer and unplugging the inline heater the 4540 started up. I did let it idle for about 25 minutes and then plowed the driveway and some trails in the woods. The battery maintainer is back on with the inline heater plugged in.

 

nothin like a 2 ton 4WD diesel pulled sleigh through the woods in the snow...beautiful pics, I dug out this morning as well; the sunshine was glorious after the last few days.

 

I think that I read the Salt City had about 60 hours straight of snow, was that correct?

Thanks SolarandWood , it's been a good tractor so far. We have almost 330 hours on it and this August it will be two years old.

 

We looked at one early winter but since we didn't have the sand ready or a spot for it, we didn't buy it.

 

It was a long steady run but only a foot and a half or so of snow enough however for my first plow of the season. I was pleasantly surprised again to have the tractor start right up at =8 and blowing yesterday.

 

We had around three inches of the white stuff from overnight and today so I did both driveways after roof raking again. I have one more area that I'll plow tomorrow and then we'll put in some wood.

Tomorrow might be a good day to put the bucket on so I can move some snow that's near the driveway into the woods on the other side so we still have enough room for the rest of the winters plowing.

With this warm weather coming in with rain, there could be some flooding going on if you live near certain parts of the river across the road. The brook is full of ice so that could get interesting.

 

Yup this rain is going to make a pretty big mess. We have 5-10mm on Friday then 15-20cms of snow on Saturday. We are going to clear the driveway tonight from last night then get as much ice as we can off the roof. Hope you stay dry

 

It sure is Hammy, the 4540 has been pushing back banks for the last two days. We don't have much snow or ice in the driveway but with everything coming in it could end up looking like a skating rink.

I roof rake the first two or three feet and it's always worked out fine, stay safe.
