I've not been posting on here much with dad's cancer treatments. They have been keeping me rather busy, and we'd have some other things ongoing related to the cancer that I'll post in another thread. Today I was reading the Thread, You heat pump guys will appreciate this one lol, and it reminded me that I finally have a solution at hand for our bedroom. I'll try to keep it brief. The infrared heater I bought at the local Benny's died before Xmas. It was cold, but not at the point of the arctic blast. With Benny's closing, I went to our local hardware store. They didn't have the same style of infrared heater that I had before. Though they did have another. After spending time talking with one of the floor salesmen, he suggested I speak with the owner. I know the owner, but he was not available at the time when I went into the store. After explaining the situation, Rob's first words were "why don't you call RISE to come perform a free energy audit?" We already pay for it through our local electric provider. When I looked into the program, they will help pay "Up to $4,000 toward the installation of approved insulation and targeted air sealing of leaks in drafty areas of your home"and "Customers in 1-4 family homes are eligible to apply for a 0% interest HEAT Loan to finance qualifying energy savings upgrades. Loans are available for $500 - $25,000 over terms of 24 months - 84 months." My hope is to have them come in and perform an audit on our bedroom. I'd like to get the ceiling spray foamed, and then look to put in a mini-split for heating and cooling. That should solve the bulk of the issues. They might also look to replace the insulation in the garage below with spray foam. All in all, I think this is the best plan to move forward. With the configuration of our house, I really believe that mini-splits would be the most efficient manner with which to heat and cool our whole house. Which I will ask them about. I just don't know if the whole house could be covered by the $25,000. Removing the old duct work, and sealing up air gaps would significantly improve the heating/cooling in this house. Plus the wood stove would become a more central piece of the puzzle with the furnace out of the picture. Heck I'd probably even switch from oil to propane and replace the hot water heater with an on demand hot water unit. Time will tell. I'll keep you updated once I get RISE to come in and perform the audit. Jason from RI
It sounds too good to be true. We'll see what happens. I figure something has to turn my way at some point.
They do it here with efficiency Vermont through power companies. They charge everyone 3 extra dollars a month on the bill so you might as well use it as your paying for it!
Oh I'm going to use it, just not sure that what I have cooked up in my brain is what they will be willing to do for me. I hope they will.
