The smaller woodshed that is attached to my barn is 8x8 and I can stack 3 cords of wood in it. My wood gets much better air flow outside the barn than stacking inside. My ice fishing sled works great for bringing wood into the mud room, 3 loads on the sled and my wood rack is full with enough wood for 2 days. Normally I would just back my truck up too one of the wood sheds and fill my tailgate, but without 4wheel drive that will have to wait.
We used to have rabbits around here, but no more! Now we have bob cats and coyotes, plus a whole bunch of other meat eaters. I would think their pray would run out and that they would move on.
Savemoney, domestic cat's kill a large amount of wildlife and birds. I read a good article about the amount of birds that cat's kill in a year it was crazy, and as far as rabbits they do a job on young rabbits.
Thanks....Thats only 2 cord for next winter the other 4 or more cord is not in that pic....And this years is in the garage high and snowless....
Here are some pics of my stacks, I've already cleaned the snow off several times to keep the weight off.
I hope so. I just got two barn cats and I am counting on them to keep the bird and rodent population in check.
Well... because they were asked for - 5-6-7 foot racks. the one to the left is mostly black birch. The rest is red oak. Been stacked there for a couple of months. They'll be covered in the spring. The black birch will be hopefully ready for the stove, ~1/2019. 2 empty 8foot racks in the foreground. They had been full, but turned into BTU's Looking back at where I took the above picture. I took the above picture just to the left of the Peace Angel flag that you can see on the screen house. Pur house is n the distance. You just make out the railing of the deck where I have my "feeder rack". ~100ft away. Same stacks - between the rows where I snowblowed. And finally, some red/white oak that was stacked a couple of months ago, which also will be covered sometime when the warmer weather gets here. You can see in the distance the side of a house. To the right of it is a"field" of white. That's a small lake that we can see from our house. The lake stretches more to the left of that visible house.
Ummm... 9-10 cords worth. Enough for this year and the next two. I have several standing dead oak trees identified at my SIL's to take down. Guessing about 1.5 cord worth. Plus a large red oak that's shading her garden that she wants removed before the spring. That one might have 2 cord in it Looks like Ill have no problem filling up the empty, and soon-to-be empty racks.
I love it! My various stack & racks in my wood area this balmy 10* late morning. Then there's the cold & lonely splitter
So, like I told the insurance man, I heat with oil. The wood pile is just a fence / windbreak / snow fence and a little supplemental heat.
