Sam's club and BJ's both have them. About $35 I have two and am very impressed. I was in there when a man bought dozens of them to retrofit his horse barn. He tried a few out and came in for more. Try one out, don't like it, take it back.

I have one over a work bench from Sam Club, I don't use it that often.

Hummmm, see how much you can get a direct wire 4' LED for. I'd definitely be interested! I am still looking for one in my laundry area and I'd rather buy something made in the USA especially in our town!

Sorry to hear XXL, hoping the manufacturer makes you whole :) Incidently, I just ordered two retro fit LED light kits for my bathroom-from Amazon, I wasn't in a rush so did not track them.... but my Amazon orders have been 4+ business days for awhile now. Hope the newer models work great for you:)

Is it pretty easy to retrofit led bulbs into old conventional 4’ fluorescent fixtures?

    Yes

and there are dozens of youtube videos of people doing theirs.
There are two basic tube types :
    1:
A:those that still use the cfl ballasts ( mostly just the newer electronic ballasts )
    B: those that don't

2: and a carry-over from fluorescent tube wiring that applies to both A and B above:
    A: single end wired and
    B: double end wired

Personally I think it's best to just go with the tubes that don't need the light fixture's ballast as the ballast is just one more thing to go bad eventually and it's another complication.

The wiring is pretty simple if you understand the wiring and it is pretty much the same as with the wiring variations with ballasts.
If you have double end wired ballasts and the LED tubes you buy are single end then you have to change the wiring. It's not rocket science.
Ballasts also had the complication of number of tubes they could start and that's gone with the LED tubes that don't need a external ballast to start.

I have 3 of these installed in my cellar and they are amazing! I only paid $14.99 at the ReStore here in town.. They are subsidized by the utility company so that was a great price! I got rid of all 3 of my double 40w fluorescent fixtures I liked these so much plus no flicker when cold!

    +1

We have a Sam’s Club an hour away. We have purchased 4 LED Shop lights (4’) for the barn there. Good price. $35. If you buy a two pack now you can get them for $65. Lots of nice bright light.

    It is easy.
You need to know if you have shunted tombstones or not. If they are shunted, you'll need to buy a non-shunted tombstone for each tube you are putting in. At $14 a piece it adds up fast. You would easily have $150 in retrofitting a 4 bulb fixture.

    I retrofitted this 2' fixture .
    It had the non-shunted tombstones

My 8' ers were single pin already. I just eliminated the ballast and nutted wires together. The same place I bought them from had fa8 style single prong ends for $2 each, but I didn' need them.

A guy could buy a new 8' fixture from HD for $35, eliminate the ballast, and put 2 led bulbs in it for $60 total. It's a lot easier to swallow after you're sick and tired of replacing fluorescent tubes though

Found these by watching Rob Paulk build one of his job trailers. I put 2 in my garage and really like them. No more ballasts to replace and less power pulled. They seem to be brighter than the tubes that were there before

Lights arrived today and I had them installed in about 20 minutes. Just had to removing old tubes and ballast and wire directly. I bought the 4000K daylight bulbs and glad I didn't get the 5000K version. The 4000K's are plenty bright and brighter than the old florescent tubes. I highly recommend converting from florescent to LED tubes.

The progress made in both the cost to buy and the lumens put out is incredible. LEDs used to just show light, didn't lite up anything. I have some of those. Now they come in about any configuration. Their lighting ability is outstanding. I will say I like the warm light over the harsh daylight ones. I wish the LED Christmas lights could be less harsh. The colors of the incandescent Christmas lights are so much warmer than the LED colored lights.
