get a text fom a buddy asking what is going on Saturday, cause he is off.

He recently hit me up to go to an Eagles concert i a couple months, so I am thinking what adventure awaits.

He asks " you need any help splitting, cutting, or loading wood?" Gee let me think this over- have a bunch of big trees down from a tornado touch down nearby. Have been whacking at them by myself past couple weeks, so I can't imagine the progrees that can be made with and extra hand.

I suppose he is suffering from cabin fever and wants some time in the country in the fresh air.

I am working through my first holz hausen, so we should have enough to build a big manly one.

Barley pop is on me at the end of the day.

Welcome to the forum Sourwood. Sounds like you have nice friends! Hope it is warmer down there. For me, it is too cold to be cutting wood today.

Well he begged off. Came down with something. I spent most of the day cussing my nonstarting expensive chainsaw.
I had some rounds cut up in the woods, so spent the day spilltting what I had. Was hoping to get a ton of trees cut up, but my husqy let me down again.

Tomorrow is supposed to get into the 30's We will see what happens then.

No i have a smaller Stihl, but it may need a new bar. Going to butcher the chain a bit tomorrow and see what it does. Have some bigger trees that the Husqvarna makes easy work out of when it behaves. Opted o splut what I have rather than fight it, knowing the bigger saw is like a laser beam, just hard to think about the longer work effort.

I know it isn’t the good stuff, but I have a little Pappy VanWinkle locked away for special events

I had a good friend at work, we went to lunch every day, and hung out some outside of work. He got promoted about 5 yrs ago (to "management"), the very next day he quit going to lunch with me and stopped hanging out. He said it was company policy not to fraternize with the people below you. No big deal, but whatever, i get it.

Fast forward 5 yrs. A co-worker calls me and asks "what happened to **** (my old friend)? He resigned yesterday." I contacted him to see if everything was ok. I won't say the exact reasons, but he has some medical problems, and couldn't take it anymore. We talked for a long time. At the end of the conversation I say to him, "Since your not in management, maybe we can hang out again." He laughed.

He calls me all the time now. He wants to know if I am splitting wood tomorrow or whenever. I was so far behind on splitting it was ridiculous. Anyhow, he has helped me split a bunch, not just for a couple hours, but 5-6 hours at a time on multiple occasions. We have annihilated by wood piles, but still got more to go. He calls so much, I split on days I don't even want to split because I can't turn down the help.

My point: it is nice to have a friend help. 2 people can do 3 times the work of just one, if not more.

It was a gift from a person I do business with. Have made it last two years. Have a little left for whatever occaision may rise in 2018.

It does live up to its reputation, I can tell you that. Same person who gave that to me, gave me a bottle of plain old VanWinkle this year. Said the other is near impossible any more.

Sounds good to me, i only read about it and its sounds well good... but i never will spend more than a 100 bucks on a bottle of whisk(e)y.
It seems to me that the person appreciates you as a bizness partner!

I am on the opposite end. Made it to the top of my job, and while I don't take it too seriously, my buddies co workers are a little stand offish. This particular guy, was a high amd post high school friend who got busy with family. They are practically raised and he has more time. Worked i restaraunts last 30 years, 6-7 days per week. I hired him away, he is making more money wih a predictable 6 on 3 off rotation. Making the effort to rejuvinate things.
