You gonna go through some wood with that temp. Wind chill will suck the heat right outta anything that has it.

Probably some oil too. By Tues, we're back up to high 30's.

My set up is less than ideal. I put a smoke dragon beside my oil furnace just to supplement. Turns out I can heat the house pretty decent on wood alone, unless it gets below 20 for extended periods. Like you, I don't pay for wood so I can feed frequently.

When I lived in the Lehigh Valley I had a Hitzer coal stove and burned Blashank anthracite. They kept the electric baseboard off. In Maine I had forced air and installed a Wood Chuck wood/coal furnace and tied it into my existing duct work, way cheaper than oil. Paid for itself and saved money the first year I owned it.

Forced hot air. And I just tried a little coal @ the beginning of this season. Not really justifiable since it isn't free.
I've been burning since 09, so all the toys have paid for themselves.

    What's kicking Tom & Jason?

The big temp swings aren't good for the livestock. 60 does sound nice after last week though.

I need to get with a buddy to drop a monster of an oak soon. Probably should stop by & see if I have a big enough bar for it.

Just working for the man. I would love some oak trees up here. Nada happening. I am wood cutting after work and excited about that.
