I didn't notice at first you had a 250 already.

I would just stick with that & see how it goes. I have a 250, and a 360. From what you were describing doing, I would just be grabbing my 250. Yes it's only a clamshell jobbie, but it handles very nice and is a lightweight, and has decent performance for what it is. I think the 271 is a couple pounds heavier?

If you do decide you want more than the 250 - I would go for a 260/261/262. Yes more money but way more saw. If I could only have one saw, that would be it. Keep your eyes open, you might find a decent used one. Even an older 024 or 026 would be a nice upgrade, as long as it hadn't been beat on too awful bad.

You have a 250, so you need s saw for larger trees. For the amount you're cutting and what it appears you want to spend on a new saw, the only real choice is the Echo CS-590. The Stihl clamshell saws are not worth the expense, especially with saws like the Echo around.

Don't be afraid to look at other brands.
Dolmar/Makita and Husquarna/Jonsered make excellent saws.
But, stick with a dealer that you like, most of all.

I hear ya I used run an old husky 340 that I got back in 2000 until the crank seal went out of it. It was a good saw. When I get back I be looking for me a bucking saw and make my 261 a limb saw

I used to be able to get by without a good dealer, but now I own an Autotune....soooo...yep. Only Stihl seems to require a good dealer for non cpu saws as they must squash any internet sales of parts. Good for their dealer network. But if all the other companies can allow internet sales and their shops survive, why doesn't Stihl allow?

I would go with the 461 for the extra $100. Same weight, .4 more horses

Yea I’m looking more toward the 461 too. I believe with my 261 and the 461 it would be a good to saw setup

    Yep ... 261c and a 461; with “good” port-jobs on each saw you have wood-slaying capabilities !

NEVER buy an MS270 or MS280, both are total crap, worst saw models by a major brand in the last decade.
The ignition coil is OEM only and $100+ and are super prone to failure.
The dealer will not fix one as Stihl wants them out of circulation, they have a ton of problems.
Also most of the parts are unique to these two models so they are all OEM only and expensive and scarce and there will be no aftermarket parts coming down the road for them, as Stihl pulled the models from shelves quickly when all the problems became apparent.

It’s looking like the 291 for me. It’s the closest in size and power as the echo and my high school buddy owns a Stihl dealership in town. I think I can get one at a good deal. I’ll report back.
