-8* this morning. It may drop a couple more degrees before the sun comes up. Got the fire going this morning with hickory and mulberry. Just a couple more days of negative temps and then we get a warm up.

 

Was 14ºF an hour ago and that was the high for the day .
13ºF now, headed for 1ºF
Our little Nor'easter may have pushed the cold out of the way for a day but it is back.

Hope everyone out east is doing well and shoveling slowly as it seems that the snow is the heavy "heart attack" type!

 

Here in S NH it's all powder, never got out of the 20's yesterday.

Warm ness

 

Currently 11F here but going to have a cold snap later (like this winter has been balmy or even normal so far). Going down to 0F tonight and -7F tomorrow; this could be our low temp. point for the year. We have around 10 or 12" of snow on the ground but it was so windy that the cars are almost bare and in other places the drifts are a few feet high. Going to be quite windy the next two days so my plan is to ignore the snow and just drive through it, then blow it out early next week when the wind will stop and temps. will rise into the 30's.

Burning oak, keeping the stove top between 500F and 600F (and a little more first thing in the morning) and loading it often..... really chewing through some firewood to keep up with the place.

2 here, wind chill of -35. 8pm load, topped up at midnight is still cooking. In case I haven't mentioned it, I love sugar maple.

 

A few degrees below 0 and blowing sustained 20 here brrh. Was kind of surprised the tractor fired right up..broke out the arctic carhartts and dipped into the primo stock for the first time this season. Hope everyone is staying warm.

Sitting at -14 C feels -21 C, or 7 F feels -5 F today. Poplar in the stove. Looks like a 4 day stretch of moderate weather, and then back to the cold stuff.

 

We got that wet nasty sh!t. Bottom two inches are slush and freezing fast.
Plowed out my mom and she's got a huge oak branch broken swinging in the middle of her driveway.
I'm gonna have to get a rope on it and try yanking on it with the tractor. Whacking it with the tractor bucket did nothing.
Broken about twenty feet up and almost touching the ground. Always something.
There's big branches down everywhere.

The turnaround part of my driveway is one huge frozen lake but probably worthless for skating with the two inches of slush on it. And then 6 to 8 inches of progressively drier fluffier "snow" on top of that. Haven't done my driveway yet. My fingers got cold. New rubber coated gloves were colder on the back than the palms and I can't get the rubber smell offa my hands. The gloves were banned from the house. LOL. They're pretty bad.

1ºF tonight, -6ºF tomorrow night, then slowly warm back up and might even get above freezing again on Monday and looks like a thaw and back to more usual Winter temps next week.

 

Ha! To cold outside so I’m getting some inside stuff done. I was just cleaning out my closet and dumped my travel bags. Found some receipts from my trip to Charleston in May of 2016. LOL

Charleston Marriott was the Hotel. Ate at Poogan’s Porch and Bruegger’s (a bagel place where we had tasty breakfast sammiches).
