OK, that might be a slight exaggeration. Red oak with stump rot that had been cracked and marked/slated for removal splintered at the crack and fell over onto a couple other trees in some nasty wind we had just before Christmas. I took a 4 foot wrecking/pinch bar Saturday and snapped at the splinters still holding the tree 'up' and got it disconnected and off the stump. Then rolled and levered it onto the ground. The rot didn't go much further than the caution tape, so got some decent wood out of it. Stripped a hemlock tree of quite a few branches when it came down. Sorry 'bout that. Maybe the deer will nibble on them instead of the ones by the house. Got it all in rounds except a bit of the top. Saw wouldn't start. It does this sometimes. After an hour or two of moving right along won't restart. Only about 2/3 tank this time though. It was getting dark anyway. I usually don't stack rounds, but did just for the L of it. It was a nice day/afternoon to cut up a red oak. There's a dozen more there to do. Plus a hemlock and a white pine. Still standing though.
Nice looking wooded area there. Tree down with no injuries. Sweet! Sent from my SM-T280 using Tapatalk
Nice job, and I agree, the area looks nice and cleaned up. It is easy to tell a Firewood Hoarder lives close by! Nice job, lodged trees can be dangerous for sure.
Yeah, not a fan of hollow oaks. Larger ones can send some large shattered splinters flying and grab your saw. I haven't bent a bar yet but I've had a few get pinched/stuck. Far too easy to get hurt.
I'm in no hurry to split them. Sacrilege, I know. I wouldn't want the deer tripping over them left out like so many legos.
You have so much stacked & seasoned, True “hoarder” No rush , pretty good looking rounds Looks like it’ll split good
