I hope they get it out of Snell Lock but with another shot of real cold weather coming in, who can tell. Ship gets stuck in ice near Snell Lock in Massena
Yikes! Something I wouldn't have thought of. We went up to the Soo last summer to see the locks and there isn't much clearance either side of those ships going through.
Not much at all, we were at one of the locks this summer to see a ship go through, it's amazing how they can get through the locks without scraping the walls. They usually do winter maintenance on the locks so if the ship doesn't get out that won't happen.

Seaway Closing Update The Saint Lawrence Seaway Development Corporation has been working around the clock since January 1 to dislodge the Federal Biscay from the U.S. Snell lock where it has been immobilized by heavy ice build-up. Work has been underway to melt the ice around the vessel using pressurized steam and additional tug boats have been brought in to assist. Progress is being made, but the extreme weather conditions are posing challenges and slowing progress. The intent remains to get all five remaining vessels, including the Federal Biscay, out of the Seaway System for the winter. The SLSDC will issue an advisory once the vessel has been safely dislodged and navigation is resumed.
According to this, they have the ship pulled out of the locks. Michael Folsom (@theshipwatcher) | Twitter
The blue things are the tugs that pulled the ship free from the locks, they positioned themselves different from the first attempts. The above picture was the position of the tugs the first few times when it didn't work.
The ships have cleared the Seaway so they'll shut it down but these two will remain until spring. The Prescott Anchor (@PrescottAnchor) | Twitter
