Well shoot I thought you had the starter problem fixed with it running She is purring like a kitten though Hey someone needs to fix the smileys they're all wacked out
I got to ask whats wrong with jegs? Was it the motor or the customer service or you find a better deal? I ask cause I plan to buy a beater truck next year and would like to have an idea of where to get a good motor/tranny to drop in as Im not looking to spend a lot on the truck itself Ill probably come up with something thats on its last legs.
Nop the stock was a EPA smog controlled motor. I welded the manifolds shut where the EPA stuff was and blocked the intake vacuum smog ports as well thanks to advice from AC. It also has a high flow filter, a solid shaft drag race fan and a performance intake. It sounds insane too. The funny thing is I waned a cheap welded muffler cuz well I am cheap.. When I bought it for $40 I thought it would be a silent one well it defiantly isn't lol but o well it sounds good anyway.
The solid fan is not helping your HP or MPG. Is it a flex fan that flattens out at high RPM? I much prefer a clutch style fan on a daily driver/workhorse like your truck. Also much easier on water pump bearings. (Who needs a fan for drag racing anyways..... ) How noisy is that fan going down the road? Some emissions equipment like EGR is not detrimental to your HP or drivability as it does not function at WOT anyways. But losing any smog pumps (A.I.R injection), auxiliary catalytic converters, and swapping out low flow/compression heads is a great way to flip off the EPA by making the vehicle get better mileage, perform better, and probably not make much of a difference in the overall tailpipe emissions.
The fan is because I had 2 clutch fans crap one of which took the old motors head gaskets with it. Besides it looks sweet lol. As for the sound well jet planes stop and stare as I go buy... My neighbors hate the truck which means I love it too haha. There are no pumps they where removed long before I bought it and its staying that way forever until death. It's gonna get new body panels for the cab this year and the bed is going away to become a flat bed. A new bed is really expensive so that's not gonna happen besides I love welding. O and it's not a daily driver normally it gets used on weekends and occasional moving of stuff.
I believe the technical term is intentional ignorance! I choose to not care... Better safe than sorry besides it's not even a noticeable HP difference considering I went from 155 to 260 hp lol.
Original was a 305 then a 350 but had a lot of restrictive EPA junk on it and now a higher horse 350.
The trans is a newer performance rebuild and the rear is a low mileage like new from the bone yard. The internals are beautiful on the rear..
I can't remember if you mentioned what year or model the truck is... If that axle is a 10 or 12 bolt... Just don't get too crazy on the loud pedal! 260hp is more than the 454 put out in the late 70s.
