It's time to put new lights in the basement.
I'm looking for inexpensive LED shop style lights. Our basement is unfinished and we want a work area, so it needs to be bright.
    What say you, hoarders?

    Brands?
    Pics
    Specs?
    Prices?
    Where to buy
    Any and all info appreciated

I have the 4 ft ones from big orange replacing the dual T-12's. More light, no flickering when cold in the basement. One over the bench has a built in Bluetooth speakers which I really like. Not high quality sound, but works fine for me. The two remaining fluorescent fixtures will be replaced.

Old fixtures were hard wired, so the new ones have plugs. I added boxes above and now have a a place to plug in a tool if necessary.

I think they were 40 bucks-ish. A little more for the sound one.

Lithonia Lighting FMLL 9 30840. Four foot long 4K ceiling light fixture. $111 per, a couple years ago, from build.com. My husband put these in and has been very happy with them.

My buddy works at Lumax. He can get lights, but they seem expensive for getting them from the manufacturer.

If I can save money by buying somewhere else, I probably will. We have accounts at all the local contractor/electrical supply houses

Costco has some on sale every now and then

I've been removing the ballasts from some of my older ones and getting hyperikon led tubes from amazon when they are on sale
I like 4000/5000K for task lights.

I just retrofitted a nice older 2' wood framed fluorescent fixture over the vanity/mirror.

Something needed replaced, either the bulbs or ballast. Bulbs really didn't look bad, but were starting to flicker.
Very nice. Easy. Cut the ballast out and rewire the tombstones on one end.

About $50 for two 2' retrofit bulbs and 15 minutes time.

I got a couple LED shop lights from HD, but they aren't bright enough. Gave one to my brother. I prefer the "daylight".....about 5k.

I get mine from TSC whenever they go on sale. Use half the power as the old flourescents and start right up. The basement's all done and half of the one garage.

I just replaced all the floros in the basement/garage/and my basement shop
w/LEDs. They came w/the new tombstones and required a little
rewiring, which was pretty easy. Using the old fixtures, it was just the cost of the
    LED bulbs.
Best thing I ever did....they are great.

These are what I use and they work great! I’ve got 4 installed currently and may do 2 more.

Do you have any fixtures now? I had 14 8' fluorescent fixtures in the shop. Got tired of buying a case of bulbs every year. I bought 30 retrofit 8' single pin led bulbs on eBay for under $10 each. Eliminate the ballast, wire nut hot to one end, neutral to the other. Takes 10 minutes per fixture if they're already in place.

If they can be cleaned up and taken down to a 2"×4"×8' white strip box it might be worth it. The led strip bulbs have a reflector in them.

Or check CL for some clean fixtures...

Yes, two rows of LED's four feet long each row. Can't wire them direct though, I had to install an outlet for each light.

This is a cross referencing post and I can add wildwest 's What's up with Amazon and Ebay? thread. I have a very similar 2' light to TurboDiesel that I am trying to retro fit to LED. I purchased the Hyperikon lights from Amazon like billb3 back on December 3rd. The were dropped off at a Canada Post depot for shipping on the 7th and were to be delivered on December 11th.....to be delivered.....:picard:

I had to start an investigation as to where the heck my lights are last week but I still haven't heard back. Called Amazon last week and the were good to reimburse me the money and said if the product arrives, just keep it or toss it. I was also in touch with Hyperikon. Great customer service . They have been very helpful and said the units I had purchased were no longer available on Amazon.ca but I could go directly to the web site and purchase from them. Hyperikon also called me directly and said on the web site there was a "make an offer" option ;). Shipping from the US (not via Amazon) isn't a great option for me but tip to you guys south of the border.

I am waiting to see if they find my lights before I order more as the they have gone up in price :zip:

TurboDiesel surplus city in Bellwood has 4 ft LED lights for $40. I bought one for my laundry area but it wasn't a direct wire. It has a cord and a pull chain so it went up in my shopand I am going to get another one for over my reloading bench. Wow is that thing bright!

My buddy is gonna get one from Lumax for me to try. We can actually get a programmer/tool that will adjust the driver to whatever output I want. And they are dim-able.
They get some returns occasionally that he can get for free too. And sometimes the engineering department has lights they're not using any more and will get rid of them for cheap.
