Okay. Here is the newbie you have been looking for! I just bought a pellet stove for the camp. I have not had time to install it. And I have not bought any pellets yet. Am thinking of buying some of the curran's manufactured about 45 miles from here. They have several different types. I just called there and the women said they are all the same price and selling for $230/ton. I thought I would get them cheaper than that picking them up there. I need to learn to stop thinking like I do.

Here is the link to their site. I have heard good about there pellets. Some say buy premium softwood pellets. The woman I spoke to at Currans says the softwood gives you a hotter burn and less ash. What do you guys think? Softwood or Hardwood? Is there really that much difference?

I am a fan in general of softwood pellets. When it comes to the Currans I believe most people prefer the softwoods as well.

At $230 for softwood Currans, that seems very fair.

I just checked a local building supply place 3 miles from my house that sells the Curran pellets. This would be better than driving 42 miles to the plant. The ones they have in stock are the Premium Hardwood/Softwood Blend Pellets. They have them priced at $219/ton right now.

    Any targets around?

Being that you live in Maine I shouldn't have to warn you about protecting your stash and stocking your larder for the winta.

    Welcome subsailor.

Thanks, Smokey. Stash is under lock and key. Larder is full. From what I'm hearing we'll be burning a little more come the end of next week.

Depends upon what your stove can be adjusted for ("what it likes") and the premium you have to pay for one versus the other.

Going from an ash level it would likely be softwood, hardwood, blend.

From a BTU level, well you have the figures.

Hey, I bought this pellet burning gizmo 5 years ago. It worked real well the first year, but every year after it worked less and less. It wont light this fall and I dont know why. I cleaned the glass really good cause that is all the dealer said I needed to do. Any ideas as to what is wrong?
