Well Seasoned just so it's clear its really easy to spend price of the tractor on attachments, just so you know. The good news is you can do it over time. grapple bucket, Harley rake, backhoe etc etc. Some it is wiser to rent when you need, others you want to own.

 

You have the same 3-pt set up as my L3710. It's very nice and very easy to adjust. It is WAY nicer than the "standard" 3pt they are putting on the L series these days. FWIW, I've graded my lane and some cleared pasture with my box blade. The hydraulic controls are nice, but really it takes about 10 seconds to adjust for the crown. Better yet, set it and make alternating L/R passes keeping the high side to the middle. No change in adjustments necessary.

 

This is very true! My tractor has a pin-on bucket rather than a skid steer quick attach. I desperately want to convert it to a SSQA so I can switch back and forth between bucket and pallet forks. Unfortunately, this will be close to $2K including the custom SSQA attachment, forks and labor. So, I've been making due without for the last 1+ yrs. Sometimes, I actually take pride in my creative hunjack solutions rather than spending my way out of problems. That said, I know I will kick myself for not doing it sooner once I get the conversion done.

 

Speaking of which.. look what showed up on my YouTube feed. BTW, I'm like 10 miles from Messicks. I'm very luck to have a great (but not cheap) Kubota dealer in my neighborhood. I can walk in and get just about any part for my 15 y.o. tractor. No back orders.

Yes, box blade has a forward and rearward cutting edge. What I mean by scraper blade is an indexable stand alone scraper blade, no box. Honestly, my box had been sitting idle for some time. My best usages thusfar with it have been for leveling loose material and using the teeth to break hard ground.

That's what I'm getting at. Heavy is good...to a point ($$). There is always something stronger and more expensive, but that's not always necessary in my experience. I'm not putting down Woods ( I have one of their 72" RB blades that is currently pretzeled waiting for a refab), but I have destroyed one of their heavy scraper blades on my relatively small tractor. Partly my fault, but my mainstay blade (circa 19?? BushHog brand) would have done what I was asking without failure. That said, it has been rebuilt many times and improved each goaround. I also have a Woods 42" tiller that has been flawless.

Also, engineering will have just as much to do with strength as weight. Sure, the box itself is very heavy steel...what grade of fasteners are used though? Quality of welds? Gussets strong enough and in correct places? These are the things I would look at along with price. The cutting edge itself could be an indicator of quality of build if it is good steel. I had to get a new edge for my scraper blade this summer and ordered an Esco brand out of Canada. I could have got one at TSC, but there is a visible difference in quality even, which leads me to believe that the TSC edge was made of lesser steel and to looser tolerances.

I had thought earlier that you all were talking weight of implement in regards to how much down pressure it will give on the cutters, not quality.

OK RCBS, I don't have just a blade, I tried one once left a gull wing at drive edge I have been trying to fix ever since.. I got a woods brush bull , box blade and York rake, all heavy duty, package deal $1200 in 2009 when market crashed. 50up mx5000 kubota yeAR before for finishing payments.. Missed out on 75 HP Kubota with cab and all toys 8 months later...

I’ve plowed my driveway a few times this year with my box scraper. One time we had icy slush and the box scraper gave it a smooth finish and got enough stones in the mix for added traction. It’s also good for a couple inches of snow.

 

That's good timing with all the possible rain or ice coming in, you'll love it.

 

BTW, I picked up one of these 3pt "log hitches" and I find myself using it a whole lot and find it very handy. Log Hitch I've been clearing and skidding a couple dozen trees/logs on from my woods. Even if you aren't skidding logs, it is amazing how convenient it is to have a chain hook and hitch receiver on your 3 pt. Of course a real logging winch would be great, but that's at least 10-times as expensive.
