Man it was chilly this morning with the wind blowing -8 not so bad for you boys up north but with the wind its dang cold. Hooked up the Oak in the cellar and this morning when i went down to fill the stove noticed the Oak for about 3' entering the cellar was frosted. Not concerned about the outside but the inside is what concerns me, just hoping its not forming Ice on the inside of the Oak and restricting the air. Any thoughts ? the stove was smoking a bit for a minute or two (had just given the pot a quick scrape might have been new pellets igniting)so being the paranoid OCD person I am i took a hair dryer to it melted all the frost and went outside and seems to be drawing fine. I would think it would not be frosting / icing on the inside of the oak .

Happens quite a bit in these type conditions. It should only be on the exterior surface, as it's frosting from humidity inside the house. Nothing to worry about, actually. Some people wrap insulation around it.

The oak at my old house used to do that.Basement install. It never seemed to bother the stove but it had me concerned at the time.Yup,insulating it would help.

Yeah, mine do that. If it bothers you, wrap it in some insulation - probably still there but at least you can't see it :D

So here are my OAKs - and it is only 0* outside. Surely looked worse when it was -17f the other day!

    P43 on main floor.

    frosty oak - P43 at zero degrees.jpg

P61a in basement. Hard to tell with this stuff, but it is frosty all the way down to just past the bottom edge of the insulation between the OAK and the pellets bags. Oh, don't concern yourself that this is dryer vent - this OAK has a long run and the first 5' is of the regular type for pellet stoves so this is way past the clearances.

No comment. By the manual please. Sorry but I'm a stupid critter and tired of stomping out forest fires.
