    I sure don't know how you can keep the pond from freezing solid in this weather. We're in the negatives every night here. If things don't warm up some soon I'll be out sleeping in the truck listening to the welder run thawing water mains again.

    Thanks, It's froze about 2" thick now and the pond in it's deepest is about 24" but I don't want it to freeze any thicker if I can help it.

    I drove to the tractor supply, 35 miles and got another pond heater. Glad I did, it started working quick. It's down to 14º now and it's got a nice melted pool around it.
    At least it won't freeze solid now.

    Are you monitoring the water temp to make sure it doesn't get too warm? I don't really know how much heat Koi's can take.

    Yup! They actually like it about 80º. On the back side of the pond there is 2" thick ice so between the two, I don't think I'll get it to warm. :)
