We had one of those somewhere back in the 80's. I wasn't reliable so it just sat around and we finally got rid of it.
AD Boivin. Snow Hawk. Cool machines. But never legalized to ride on the trails. Now there's snow bikes. Same deal, mostly, but at least the track and ski can be removed, and you have your dirt bike for the rest of the year. AD Boivin now has their own snow bike conversion kit. The snow hawk was interesting, but heavy and not really different enough than a snowmobile.
Well I wouldn't want to boondock on a ditch banger anyway. Man, those really rough trails were a blast to hammer down on. Really feel that the next day though. No way I could do that anymore though.
FAST was awesome. They know/knew their stuff. They were the official skidoo performance shop, then they went to Polaris modifications. I sent my 90 formula plus 521 off to them for porting and high power pump gas / trail mods. Boy was that 521 fast. Smoked my buddy's zr 580, then he went to a zrt6, and he barely had enough to walk past me at lake speed. I then put a rave 621 from a Mach 1 in it, and regained the fastest sled of the group title. It was fast, but rode like crap on anything but smooth trails. I then bought my 00 xc600sp. Smoking fast, even stock, just the right amount of suspension to handle most trails ( until they got stupid bumpy), but still low enough to be a lake racer. Guys that have 800's that get beat by a stock 600 on a full speed lake run are not happy. /
definitely they were more of a touring suspension. long ride all-day comfort, extra long travel with no bottoming out.
The wife and I were planning on selling our sleds this year, and this thread is not going to help! I really don't want to get rid of them but we're just not getting enough use out of them...
My FIL had one of those MF Ski Whiz turds years ago....wrench on it for 2 hours, ride for 3-5 minutes, rinse, repeat I had one of those ski bikes as a kid...does that count?!
Ours was always the only sled that would run every time. My cousins steel belly pan Yamaha took half a day to start and constantly was getting stuck. My buddy had one of those ugly twin headlights Polaris machines... I can't remember what it was called. Horrid white blue and red paint job. Flooded or broken recoil all the time
Has anybody else seen...not even sure what its called...snow bikes pulling skiers around a MX track? It was on one channel the last time we were at B dubz...pretty crazy...
A buddy of mine built one of them in high school/early 80's What a riot! We built a SxS in grade school powered by a 70 Mercury 550e twin, also. Wish I had pics of that!
I was just looking at sleds on CL. That got me looking at reviews for sleds and new motor combos. The 900ace Doo 4 stroke sounds like the real deal. They'll do 90 mph, have tons of torque, are near silent, and get 20 mpg. Also they are easy to change the oil on, and apparently are the first 4 stroke that doesn't have a heavy feel to the front end. This is one of the few modern 4 stroke sleds I haven't ridden, but it sure sounds like I need to try one of these. I know the rmotion Doo rear suspension is pretty amazing. Plus heated seat option? I'm sure the wife would love it.
13 h.p. polaris mustang. The bench seat had a piano hinge on it and folded up for storage access. (web pic)
Haven't seen that. But I've seen skiers racing being pulled behind sleds. It's some crazy cabin fever Alaskan thing. It's probably the same race.
Thanks-lots of pictures of sleds I remember. The first I ever rode was a 1970 Ski-Doo Olympic 335. The next year Dad bought a Ski-Doo Nordic 640, then an Olympic 335 for Mom. Then he went on a JD kick, with aJDX4, a 600, a Cyclone 440, and a Trailfire 340. We also had one for the first Kitty Cats made, bought for me brother and I in 1971. I had a Ski-Doo Élan 294 SS. Doesn't sound like much to you modern guys, but let me tell you, 28hp on a 26" ski stance machine that weighed about 300lbs was pretty exciting for a 15 year old. Gosh, I miss those days!
That second picture looks like Lebanon valley. Typical Polaris really did a good job of screwing up something good like the m10. You need to check the front arm in the skid, they crack then break taking out the track with them. Then they need a serious extradition from the trail if the track won't roll.
