Unlike previous years, for once I actually have decent pellets near me that don't cost an arm and a leg - please don't hate me :)

What's in the hopper? Hopefully 802. Left there yesterday around noon with a full hopper. Hope there are some still in there, otherwise it is all dino juice right now keeping the animals and pipes warm.

Well my couple bags of PTLs arrived. They're definitely a slightly different bag than what you tested, but we'll see.

I'll probably load a bag of these in today. I'll be sure to report back. Not that it really matters... These are from way to far away to make it meaningful (to you and I), but they may help someone more local to the stash. More info as if develops.

I've looked the bag over trying to find a date code of some sort and have not. Here's what I got:

Those are hardwood Lignetics. Typically, consistent year to year but with a higher ash volume than other comparable pellets..... typically

Cool. What's the date and location code of what you got?

if you've never looked before... Decoding instructions here:
Reading the NEWP or Green Supreme bag code.

I've got that info from mine around here somewhere too... I'll have to find that for comparison.

Yup. I just zoomed in and read on the bag you tested... "Made from pure western conifer sawdust", while mine say "Made from the finest hardwood sawdust".

Here's to hoping they're good (anyway)!

Yes, agreed. Last time I got some PTL hardwoods, they were very heavy on the ash. Heavy meaning a lot of it, and also heavy meaning it just collects in the burnpot instead of blowing out. Still have some ligs to burn through as well - they are very similar, probably worse. Wouldn't buy either of them again.

Holy Crap!! Just got home at 7:30 and after filling the 78lb hopper at noon yesterday with 802's. I thought for sure the stove would be dead cold 31.5 hours later in this cold.

Nope, still burning with maybe 5 lbs left to go. Stove temp/Auto, setting 3 and low fan. Color me impressed with these pellets

Again, thanks ttdberg for the heads up on the craigslist ad for these.... :handshake:

I rechecked my date code, and the Green Supreme I bought are 6305 + 2222 which means they were bagged on May 5th, 2016, and were done at the Schuyler, NY plant.

I bought them from Lowes in the fall of 2017, but they were already over a year old by the time I bought them. Guess they had been sitting Lowe's shelf for over a year. I'm not sure if that's a good thing, a bad thing, or a non-factor. I assume it all depends on how much moisture they see over the year.

I'm pretty sure I'm not qualified to rate pellets, but for me, they seem to burn fine for a middle of the road cheap pellet. I've been wondering what they have in stock now... Are they still eating up NOS, or do they have a new batch yet.

Well the hardwood PTL Lignetics burn. I just put them in, so that's all I know so far. First hurdle accomplished though! :)

So if you've been to the MacArthur Rd Lowes, or the one over in Bethlehem... What are they stocking? I'll add them to my local pellet map if you know. (or any others for that matter...)

Was at MacArthur Rd earlier today. Two old ton of Power Pellets, some loose Cheat River inside and a bunch of Greene Team on the outside of the building. I was very disappointed as that store in the past used to sometimes carry "better" box store pellets.

The ones I just finished up spent two summers in my driveway. No issues exceot a couple corners of a few bags had gotten wet.
