I'll have to dig that MSU study up again. I think the time needed at that temp was not that long. Where the EAB is from, it simply doesn't get that cold.
Heres a photo I took a few minutes ago out a side window in my living room. A beautiful but crisp day! Its warmed up to -27c/-16.5f. Doug fir heating the house.
I was talking to my dad this morning he was asking how much would we are burning. I did the math and came out with 220 SF in a month at this rate
You may be right. I cannot find the link to that study. There's a few dead links out there now. Sure makes it hard to find that excellent read.
It's sitting at -22 C feels -25 C or -7 F feels -12 F for the time being, warmest it has been in 9? days I think. I was wondering why the wood was keeping up and the oil furnace went silent.
-25C tonight. Our town's putting on a fireworks display. I hope they enjoy it I'm not burning anything. My Jotul 602 is used to heat the sunroom which has 6' vinyl sliding windows on 3 sides. When it gets below -15C it has trouble keeping up, so we don't bother.
Got up to 16F here with sun & very light wind for a couple hours, burnt down coals with some Silver Maple & cleaned the ash box. Nice to have that done, also replaced the coupler on the splitter that broke last week. Will wait till later to re load with Ash & Oak. Back down to -5 they say. We ain't freezing nor starving, so it's all good. HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!! BE SAFE.
6 with a real feel of -11. Got this lineup for the next reload. Shorties of you tell me. Wow I'm burning up a lot of wood this year.
2 above heading for 10 below with a steady north wind. Stove loaded with enough hedge to get to geosynchronous earth orbit and pro-pain boiler is on standby.
Currently -14° Pellet & wood going, house 80° except bedrooms which are around 70° Turning off pellet stove and will reload ws later. Stay warm folks.....
Just reloaded... Currently -3 F outside... 74 F inside... Fan on high... Clear Skies and a Very bright moon tonight.... Got Plenty of Hedge and Locust and a couple of fire starters of Oak in the mix...
3° with a feel of -°5. 69° in the house... 90% of what I've used this year has been ash. We had a mild winter last year, and I was really hoping I would only go through about 5 cords of wood on average in the new home. I think 7 or so will be more accurate. Kind of depressing, but I don't know what else to do about it. I know my wood burning is saving me a couple thousand a year, no doubt.
0* and predicted to just go negative. Heavy winds though and they are sucking the heat out of the house. The heat pump kicked on yesterday morning at 67* inside temp. I expect it to be running when I wake up. Red Oak, hickory, and ash are loaded in the stove. Happy New Yea, good night, and stay warm.
