I was watching the news this morning and it looks you guys in the east are having some brutal weather. I hope you all are staying warm
Thanks for the thoughts. I'm know it's colder further north of me. A few good sized splits of BL into the wood stove at bedtime, results in a fine bed of coals for easy re-lighting 7-8 hrs later. Sent from my XT1030 using Tapatalk
5 below this morning then with the wind it’s downright brutal cold. Not northern Maine cold but cold enough!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
gmule. I like to check the weather at places I have hunted or visited across the country this time of year. I noticed that you guys out there are surprisingly warmer than here in PA. But I'm keeping warm with good dry hardwoods, oak, ash and hickory!
Minus 7 this morning...house was 78 with the Baby Bear burning. Not supposed to be out of the cold snap til around January 7th or so.
Winds are howling on this hill tonight and just buffeting the house. I actually put the dog in to the lambing barn where it is insulated a bit better than the sheep barn. That is a first. The sheep are fine down to about 30 below zero (f), but the dog is not so well protected. I am not sure what the temp is going to be, but said with wind chills down to -27 below zero (f). I had -4 this morning, but with anthracite coal burning, was plenty of warm don't ya think! (LOL)
Sugar maple doing the deed here. Coldest wind chill I've seen so far in this little cold snap was -36. Boiler got down to 124 that day, but recovered quickly with a fresh load. This sugar maple had been laying dead for a couple years and was just on the edge of punky, so it dotted up real quick. Takes off really well on a hot pile of coals.
A little cooler than usual and in past recent years. I've got clothes for this weather, some haven't been worn for a long time. I got new snowshoes for Christmas so we will have cold instead of snow for sure.
-33 wind chill this morning (and it's gonna get colder) switched to 90% Oak a little over a week ago.
Staying warm here. Thanks. The Wood Gun boiler is eating a lot of wood lately (-15 at night), but I have plenty to get through April. My brother is working at one of his rentals where he apparently found out there were some places where there wasn’t very good insulation. He had some pipes freeze and break. That is a real PITA. I’ve been there before. I’m sure he will get them fixed with one or two of his employees. He is a contractor. And then they will correct the problem. It’s a new to him rental that he bought, so he is still learning the ins and outs of the building.
Gasifier had same problem a few nights but I've owned buildings for a decade or so. I figured out the culprit, they did not shut the basement door Not real hard to figure out with it snowin and fresh tracks. Of course they denied it was them, I mean how much sense does that make. I stated, so you are contending someone else has your key to the basement door and did not shut it? I know I have a key but I wasn't here and those tracks are not my size 13 4e boot! Really?!
I rented apartments for about 12-1/2 years. It was a good supplemental income for a while, and can be a good investment. And I took my time and “screened” my tenants pretty well. But I was ready to be done with it when we were able to afford it. Had a lot of good tenants. And am also glad to no longer be a “landlord”.
Above zero here for the first time in days. Took the atv for a little road cruising for a bit. Nice to get out
It's cold everywhere. This is sho nuff cold for us. Stocking up the porch with ash and oak as we speak. May have some ice to deal with tomorrow
Yup, it's a life decision for now, keeps my schedule flexible enough so that wife and I raise our child and not daycare! Of course there tax deduction and benefits but our Lil one is now 12 and they will be sold after she out of school, and paid for by then so retirement monies. But that unit has baseboard heat it was going negative double digits so action was required.
