That's a new one on me. Around here you can go just about anywhere and pick up forestry chains including Stihl.
I've ground off the extra raker from a tie strap like on RM2 style chain before, and it does improve the performance, but it's still not as good as RM3.
Guns, light bulbs, little orange screw drivers and now non safe chain I'm going to needs a bigger bunker
I just bought a couple of chains from the local Stihl dealer and all they have now is the RS type because that's what the customers wanted. One is a green safety chain and the other is a yellow non safety chain (I am scared ).
Man, I hope you checked with the AHJ to see if they approve. I've used only 2 saws, both with safety chain, and they didn't cut well as far as I was concerned. Once I switched to gooder chain, life is also gooder.
My low kickback chains are the ones I find rocks with. Wonder if they make safety knives or safety lawn mower blades or safety chop saw blades or…
LOL, this stuff seams to bug some of you people, welcome to the new world, at work we have some saftey rules because of stupidity and thats what is going on with all these rules and regulations, it as much the fault of ignorant people as it is the fools making up the rules. Have you seen the picture of the guy who was hit in the face with a chain saw, not a pretty sight so to justify there jobs the rule makers come up with low kickback chains to protect us from our selves. I just started this thread so maybe some one would learn something from it, I know I have learned a few things about the chains in my search for the best one to buy. Common sense safety is good (we like chaps do we not) but over the top stuff is silly.
If you don't mind it being a green-label chain, then yes, it's good chain. RM is the standard yellow label variant.
That's the same situation I have at my dealer. They don't stock RM. They have RS3 in 3/8's RM3 in .325 and almost every yellow label chain is RS. I have to special order some of my favorites like RSK, RSLK, RM, PM (NLA ), and the new PS3 series.
Peak saw chain! My dealer has two stores, neither are doing anything other than business as usual. Ask for a chain for your saw, they'll hand you a green-label. Tell them what you want or this is what you get. Same way my old dealer where I used to live did it. If you don't know about yellow chain, chances are you don't cut enough to know the difference anyway.
I went to buy a 3/8 72dl chain a few months back at one of my dealers and they hand me a safety chain after I said I DONT want safety chain. The guy then went back and got a yellow chain.
Nah. Either the saw will grenade from excessive RPMs and kill the operator with shrapnel or he'll asphyxiate from the exhaust running it in his garage.
